Denver Metroplex
Basics
DENVER
[Taken from the Identeco Core Rule Book 21-22] The Mile-High City became an obvious place for Corps to exploit. Nestled in the high plains of the Rockies, it offered fertile land, lots of space, and the ability to dig farther into the old mining operations. Denver has an entire “second layer” to their city under the earth. The sprawling underground malls and living areas provide year-round climate control for the Metroplex. The tech allows for crops to grow in constant cycles, but also provides “outdoor-type” entertainment to those seeking to get away from the snowfall and cold temperatures each winter. Topside, some Corps are racing to build the highest possible skyscraper they can as a way to stand taller than any other Corp in the world. As one CEO based in Denver said, “We’ve already got a mile advantage on almost everyone else. Why not go for the heavens?”Some More Details
The Denver Metroplex jurisdictionally covers everywhere from Fort Collins to Pueblo, but outside of the city core and the former suburbs (now districts), actual control is mixed and nomad groups can often be found wandering in the hills between the factories, though most of the factories outside the suburbs are at least minimally guarded by either corp security or CSS. Much of the inner districts are housing and office space while the outer districts are heavily industrialized, with massive indoor agricultural operations and bioreactors producing a sizable quantity of the food supply for the Southwest United States. Denver's unique preference for underground activities has meant that most of the city streets are quite a bit more barren than most other metroplexes as almost all pedestrian traffic and commerce is underground. Most people still live in above-ground apartment buildings, but all but the most remote apartments are connected to the underground. Additionally, the city's underground Rapid Rail system allows for transport to almost all districts without the need for a vehicle (ROVs and large armed drones are not allowed on the rapid rail). The underground in many areas is similar to a mall, with the area upkept only as much as the district feels justified. In more upscale areas, they're clean and well maintained with greenery and overt CSS presence. In more rundown areas, gangs effectively operate in the open, with CSS having generally real control only over core areas and near rapid ride stations. Regardless of where they are located, almost every underground has a large service freight elevator on every block that gives access to the service corridors. It's proximity to the Scar, Salt Lake City, and the Republic of Texas has also made the city a major trade hub for cross continental shipping. The Republic of Texas maintains a Consulate in one of the downtown towers. The Strasburg district contains a major hub for cross-Scar travel and shipping.Corps to Know
City Security Services
City Security Services (CSS) is the corporation that polices the Denver Metroplex. While large enough to earn a seat on the City Council, they are the most junior partner, and make up almost all of the law enforcement in the city. Their grey-silver uniforms and minimalistic police shield badges are ubiquitous throughout the city. Their purpose is less justice and more maintaining the peace through any means necessary. Because the underground is such a key part of the city, CSS goes out of their way to avoid provoking riots in those areas, though they will crack down on protests in middle-to-upscale areas quickly to prevent them from growing. While a major presence in Denver, they've yet to break into other Megaplexes beyond site security, and the bulk of their municipal contracts are with small towns in the Great Plains west of the scar and Rockies.I&S Arms
