Personal history

Childhood

Riza was born in Ditchford as an only child. Her parents were scavengers and part time blacksmiths who were part of the Molten Minds guild who were specialized in utilizing the heat of Gavuun to craft and smith. Her parents raised her to follow in their footsteps and become greater than they were. Her focus was mostly on tinkering during her early years as she was not brought into the tundra and plains to scavenge because of the many dangers. Her tinkering gave her both purpose and joy in the cold wasteland that she was born in, she became so good at it in fact that she was never asked to join her parents scavenging mission as her talent was in their workshop. Riza became fascinated with mechanical prosthetics which were an extremely rare sight in the north, but more common in the south and the rest of the continent. She managed to get her hands on a few broken prosthetics and some parts as they were worth almost nothing to the people who had them, but much for her. She understood the reason that the prosthetics could not work well in the north was the cold which made them ineffective and made it much easier to gain frostbite. Riza became obsessed with figuring out how to improve the prosthetics and make them work in the cold. This project of hers took years, but when she was 15, her father had to amputate his arm because of mercury poisoning which spread through his system after encountering the frost fiends while out scavenging, this event made her even more dedicated to her work. It took her half a year from her father losing his arm until she managed to make a prototype of her prosthetic. Her prosthetic could burn small amounts of coal to give them a constant heat which would resist the freezing temperatures, and for creatures who were not resistant to the cold like her family, they could protect the wearer against frostbite. She would continue to improve her design and make her father's prosthetic even better. By the time she was 17 she could make more prosthetics which sold for much in Ditchford as it was normally something that could not be made or bought.

The Planewalker

When Riza was 22 she had become quite good at her craft and she had bought her own place to live where she would tinker all day. Since coal was so important for her prosthetics, she had to walk weekly over to a small coal settlement to the west. During one of her trips back from the settlement, she saw a person laying face down in the snow. Riza believed he had died from frostbite as it was normal for travelers to end up dead around the settlements, but to her surprise the person was alive. She brought him with her back to her workshop and first then realized what they were and how hurt he was. The man was a gray skinned elf who had lost his left arm. She had never seen an elf with his complexion and was curious about his origin. He was also starved and had suffered much from frostbite and extreme exhaustion. He had some weird items with him, including a very advanced scepter that looked both magical and mechanical, and a greenish metal glaive that was made from a metal she did not recognize. She decided to heal him which included closing his wounds, cutting off dead flesh and fully cauterizing his stump. It took him almost a week to wake up as he had been fighting his injuries and a terrible fever, but when he finally did he was shocked to be alive and cared for. He was very inquisitive and didn't seem to trust her at first. He was also curious about where he was as he asked about places she had never heard of. Nothing he said about where he came from made sense and the places he described seemed to be either far away from where they were or didn't exist. The man had originally introduced himself as Evanzrie, but after a few weeks opened up and said his real name was Rhazzad Lorens. He was a very interesting person as much of what he spoke off sounded like gibberish, but some parts sounded like adventure on a level she had never imagined. He had lived a long life and experienced many events and went on dozens of adventures. Even though he had seen many things on his journey and knew much about the arcane, he was still incredibly impressed by Riza's talent to create prosthetics. He had never seen any prosthetics which could replace a limb to this level. The two had much to talk about as they were both intellectual in their own practices and they hit it off really well. Rhazzad came up with the idea of using his glaive to create a prosthetic as it was an extremely durable and powerful metal from his home. It was known as star alloy and came from meteorites. Riza had never made something so advanced, but accepted the request and with help from her guild, she managed to make the metal into plates, gears and joints for the prosthetic. It still took about two months for her to complete the arm, during this time the two became quite close and they would go on to become more than friends. Rhazzad would request tons of expensive ink and paper to create a new spellbook as his old one was left behind when his arm was cleaved off, the material available in Ditchford was almost nothing and they only managed to find enough for a few spells of the lower circles. He also told her that she was a drow, something which he was almost embarrassed to admit, but Riza didn't know what drow or who the drow was and didn't care much. The knowledge that drow were only legends and boogeyman was interesting and gave him much relief as where he came from they were seen as villains and nothing more than scum who could not be trusted and were not allowed in most countries and cities.

The Journey

When the arm was finished and he had coupled to the prosthetic he asked Riza to travel south with him as he could not stand the cold and he wanted to explore this new world with her. It was a very difficult decision for Riza as she had never traveled more than a few miles away from Ditchford, but the idea of traveling with him made her excited and her parents were very accepting of her decision to leave as they wanted the best for their daughter. They were a bit skeptical about Rhazzad, but trusted her judgment. They packed up equipment, rations and most of what they could carry and started their journey. The journey south was extremely difficult and many who attempted to leave Ditchford were often never heard of again. This was not so different for Riza and Rhazzad who met many challenges on their journey. They encountered frost giants, wild creatures and had to find shelter for an extended amount of time as they had packed too few rations. Even though they met many obstacles, they managed to wander into the Andúrin Dominion. Riza had to explain to Rhazzad that her kind was not allowed into the cities as tieflings were banned from the dominion because of something that had happened hundreds of years in the past. Rhazzad knew how it felt to be unwanted by society and comforted her about it. He had the idea of disguising themselves by using magic for their stay in Farendale, which was one of the biggest cities in the Dominion. The two stayed in the city for a couple of months and managed to make enough money to buy a big piece of land in the forest north of the city. It was completely empty, but together they started working on a home. Rhazzad had enough resources to write down his spells which helped a lot during the construction. It took them about a year to make a house big enough for them and a new addition. In the time spent building their home, Riza had gotten pregnant as the two had fallen in love during their journey and time spent together. Their daughter would be born in A4 644 and be named Lillia Sapphire Lorens, taking both her parents last names. Riza would also propose to Rhazzad the following year and he said yes. They were married in the forest surrounding their home which was now called the Far Land, named after the dream Rhazzad had since his childhood to find a place in the universe to belong to and be wanted.
