Epilogue

A Silent Land of Lost Souls

(Legacy Content)
A realm of endless silver-fog atop a mirror of our own world. This is the realm of the dead.
The realm known to the public consciousness as Epilogue is called by many names. While the proper term for it is Epilogue, cultures around the world know it by other names, such as Afterlife, Ghostland, or simply as the Ethereal plane. Despite having numerous names, Epilogue is commonly known as the realm of the dead. It is the plane of existence where souls exist, and where they go when their bodies eventually cease functioning. There, the souls either wander restlessly, be it to haunt and torment those that still live or that they refuse to accept their death, or they are met with an agent of Order that will guide them to the hands of their chosen fate. That agent is of course Apollyon, Angel of Death, who shepherds the lost souls to their fates and away from the maws of creatures who inhabit this place and demons who seek to devour their exposed essence.

Geography and Inhabitants

The realm of Epilogue is a nearly exact mirror of the Material realm, though with some distortion throughout. The land is almost constantly enveloped in thick fog, only rarely clearing around specific phenomena. One thing that differs from our realm is the presence of small, perhaps four-foot (1.2 m) wide pools of black liquid throughout the realm. These pools seemingly do not similarly exist in our reality, and the fog that is ever present throughout the lands seems to thin and dissipate around these pools. These pools appear to have some manner of meaning to the inhabitants of the realm, as entities known as "Silent Saints" have been witnessed meditating or resting on the banks of these small pools. The Saints appear as members of various humanoid races, male and female, typically wearing black adornments that cover all but their heads, alongside a black blindfold that wraps around the eyes. Occasionally, these Saints will be called upon by some unknown force to cull intruders of the realm, using a variety of bladed weapons, and moving about with an unearthly grace and speed.

The fog-covered landscape is also home to a number of other strange creatures, as well as potentially dangerous wandering souls. Such creatures include the vicious Foguntiir, the majestic Soulfins, and other strange and alien creatures.

Localized Phenomena

The entire plane of Epilogue is subject to strange phenomena, presumably in part due to its nature as the realm on which souls exist. Pockets of strange gravity, for instance, are present throughout the lands. In such pockets, gravity can often shift in strange and unpredictable ways, though once they are ejected from such pockets they become subject to the normal gravity of the realm. The fog that encompasses the majority of Epilogue also has some strange properties. Whilst within these dense fog-banks, a living entity can seemingly hear the sounds and noises of the location on the Material realm that their current location is mirroring, though these sounds are often mixed with pained or mournful groans from the souls around them.

Planar Travel Advisory Notice

Those with the capabilities to pierce the dimensional veils and travel to other such planes of existence are hereby warned against making frequent use of such magics or capabilities. This is due to the present weakening of planar barriers within specific locals where such travel is common, leading to numerous casualties. We do not fully know what lies beyond, or perhaps within these boundaries, and would wholeheartedly prefer to prevent such eldritch creatures from travelling to and destroying our world. We appreciate your cooperation.
