The Elf-King's Tomb
The Chamber of a King Forgotten
Purpose / Function
Built during the waning days of the Dominions of Elves to honor a long-forgotten Elf-King who was said to have ruled over countless cities and governed lands far and wide. The tomb was originally meant to serve as a sort of gathering place for Elven lords and ladies, and therefore was made quite spacious. It was only much later that it was repurposed to be solely a tomb, which is why the building itself is so open, and the resting place itself is nothing but a small dome-like structure at the center where the remains of the Elf-King lie, surrounded by his most ardent followers, frozen in time.
Architecture
The tomb lies in the center of a smaller forest connected to The Greatwood Forests, and is built like a great hall, with doors swung open at the entrance and a once regal, but now overgrown path lined with ruined pillars stretching up into the ceiling lead through to the very end, where a small, dome-like structure overgrown with vines and ivy houses the remains of the Elf-King. Around the central coffin, there are dozens of people, perfectly frozen in time and overgrown. Some wear light robes and appeared to have been chanting something while others wear Elven-style armor and weapons, ready to face any danger. These statues are the forgotten Elf-King's most ardent followers who, after their liege's death, used magic to freeze themselves in time, next to their king, believing that this way, they would be serving and protecting him until the end of days.
History
Built during the waning days of the Dominions of Elves to honor a long-forgotten Elf-King who was said to have ruled over countless cities and governed lands far and wide. The tomb was originally meant to serve as a sort of gathering place for Elven lords and ladies, but for a reason now forever lost to time, the idea was scrapped and turned into a tomb and nothing more. As the great Dominions of the Elves fell and faded into obscurity, so did the legend of the Elf-King and his legacy. Now, the only thing left of him is folklore and ghost stories of his followers awakening during a full moon and terrorizing local villages and stealing people away to take them back to their long-gone king to try and reawaken him by any means necessary. Could those rumors be false? Could they be true? Few know for sure...
