Arainverian League

The Arainverian League was named after the legendary Graylander hero who slew the Gray Chief and ended the Goblin Crusade. Ever since its creation over a decade ago, it has withstood constant attacks from kobolds, goblins and other monsters alike. The alliance has no official leader, and is instead governed through the approval voting of its five constituent dukes. Sometimes, this means progress can be made extremely quickly...but that is rare. For the most part, this structure has significantly slowed down decision-making, something which has and likely will continue to cause preventable defeats for the league. But aside from that, the League continues to stand strong against surprising odds. Although its men-at-arms and levies are nowhere near on the level of the legions, they are still a force to be reckoned with and they've repeatedly proven their worth in battle against the invading kobolds.

Structure

The League is very decentralized, and is in reality five separate duchies working together in a mutual alliance against the invading Kobolds. There's no head of state, and the closest thing to a governing body are the five Dukes, who often gather together in Marcaria to address pressing issues, most often the encroaching Kobold tribes.

Public Agenda

The League's sole raison d'être is to provide a united front against the invading Kobold tribes and defend the Graylander duchies from total collapse, something the Legions would have done if they hadn't abandoned the West. Now, that job has been given to the feudal dukes and their barely professional men-at-arms, a joke compared to the Caleian legions but currently the best defense the Graylands can muster.

History

Ever since its creation, the league has been in near-constant strife and conflict with its kobold enemies to the north and the occasional power-hungry warlord from the neighboring Roianumia province. In 13 V, the league was dealt a staggering blow with the fall of Graymouth, its largest holding in the north. With its fall, kobolds have been pouring into the Graylander wilderness nearly unopposed. The northern cities of Clifront and Mosshellow have fallen too, with Snowharf and Idewell currently under heavy siege as of 17 V. Should they fall, there is little stopping the kobolds from marching right up to the walls of Marcaria and laying siege to the capital itself.

Territories

The Arainverian League is made up of five separate duchies: Drame, Lostsia, Stil, Audrock and Bover. Together, they govern nearly all of the Graylands, save for the northernmost cities which have fallen into kobold hands. Culturally, they have brothers on the other side of the gulf, but those states aren't part of the league and prefer to stay out of the matters and problems of the west, much to their annoyance.
