Headhunting Profession in Aliria | World Anvil

Headhunting

Many guilds have risen and fallen due to the introduction and implementation of laws and restrictions. This is typically due to the rashness of one particular ruler and sometimes overturned during the reign of another down their line. Rarely are new laws made against certain professions or people's lively hood until recently. The Open Lord of Amberfall has come out and outright outlawed the long-standing traditional profession of Headhunting.

For centuries the Assassin's Guild has been a community stretched across the continent of Lothlonde with its roots in many of its capitals. Many strict rules have been abided by assassins and mercenaries working with and trained by the guild as to keep things as civil as contracted murder could be. The guild was very open with whichever royal group, or standing government, that wanted information on the inner workings of the guild. In recent years, as contracted murder had become more taboo and the guild grew poorer, Headhunting took more contracts to kill various creatures and monsters that threatened people or towns. For awhile the guild survived solely on monster contracts until one particularly annoyed Prince hired the Assassin's Guild to kill the lover of the Princess he was set to marry. This sparked battles and skirmishes between the two neighboring human cities attracting the attention of Amberfall.

The Peace extended to inter-faction battles. As such the Open Lord of Amberfall was forced to step in and solve the issue as carefully as possible. Malagaar, using all available power to figure the situation out and stop further loss of life, eventually found the Assassin's Guild that took the human's contract. The Open Lord stripped the Prince of all titles and claims to lands for breaking The Peace. Immediately after, Malagaar met with several of the rulers and government officials of various cities across Lothlonde in a meeting not seen since The Treaty at Amberfall. There they discussed the contracted murder and the potential benefits versus the pitfalls of allowing Headhunting to remain a way of life due to tradition.

It was eventually settled that Headhunting would be banned all across Lothlonde, some were resistant as it also encompassed the contracted killing of dangerous threats, but the Assassin's Guild specifically was targeted and disband. In the future, a creature-based Headhunting Guild would be formed under a strict and watchful eye of Malagaar in Amberfall.
