Agostan Alpaca

Alpaca from the Agostan region in southern Lothlonde.

The Agostan Alpaca is a highly valued resource across the Southern Plains of Lothlonde. The temperatures in the tropical south and selective breeding have given these Alpacas a hardy nature. They are capable of withstanding temperatures ranging from hot and arid deserts to cold and brutal tundras. Due to this they are bought and sold as caravan animals and mounts for travelers.

These animals are bred to have various colors in their furs. Browns, reds, cold whites, and even the odd purple or green. In order to increase their selling potential to a wider range of travelers, the breeders have increased their visual appeal as well as their hardiness and size. An Agostan Alpaca stands approximately three meters tall from hoof to the top of its head. Its body is only a meter and a half from the ground, similar to a horse. This allows for the carrying of a rider and some packs that the traveler may need.

Their lifespan has been carefully selected to be an average of 40 to 50 years. The combination of this and the easily created bond between owner and Alpaca makes them lifelong companions. Travelers purchase their Alpaca when they are just a cria. This ensures a strong bond early in the Alpaca's life. Most people tend to choose a fur color that appeals to them, but there are some travelers that choose based on the region they live and work in as to help them better blend in for whatever benefit that may give. The animals have an inherent "speak only when spoken to," behavior, and make sounds unique to their species for various emotions and responses.

Agostan Alpacas seem to have no limit to the number of languages or words they can understand.
