The group reaches Level 5, and makes friends with The Crabmaster, but can venture no further without magical aid.


The group returned to Level 3 of The Spire, informing Ariella Colello of their success, and rested there before descending again. On their way back through Level 4, the group noted that the metal box that had contained Marnier 12 was gone. They made their way down to Level 5, finding it to be covered completely in darkness. The group sent Clanky ahead to scout, as he was able to see in the darkness, and they met Jarash, an Undine sorcerer and his giant crab. They presented themselves as enemy of the necromancer who occupied the level below, Jarash confirmed that the necromancer used both constructs and undead in his foul designs, and that he did not know how to get to the next level. Jarash explained that he came here through a portal to the Plane of Water, and was studying The Spire. He agreed to let them pass, but could not aid them in house to traverse the submerged levels, as he had no need for such magic, being a creature of water.   The group elected to head back to the surface, intent on seeking magical aid before returning. The group was attacked again by the spirit of Caen Borland, and after a tough battle, they were able to drive his spirit off and reach the surface, where they found a guitar symbol imprinted on the wall outside the door, radiating necromatic energy.
