Healer Witch
Witches who choose to dedicate their talents to the Craft of Healing are sure to find employment anywhere in Celarruhn, whether setting themselves up independantly in a humble village or joining an established House of Healing in a bustling city. Maintaining the health and wellfare of everyone and anyone who comes seeking for it is a huge responsibility, and is far from being an easy job. Healers are often required to maintain a balance between the quick creation of cures, and dealing with the broad range of emotions and personalities of their patients.
Education
It is generally recommended that a witch spends between five and six years in study to become a Healer, whether at an official Academy or through personal studies or apprenticeships. Self-taught Healers are no less respected than those who are Academy trained. Witches commonly split their time between official education, where they can gain access to equipment and libraries, and apprenticing under experienced witches either in a town or city. Whichever educational path a witch takes, all start with the same foundation: recognising reagents and their properties. Celarruhn boasts a huge number of natural arcane resources, and it should go without saying that it is vital that a Healer knows what will heal and what will poison. Fortunately for todays witches, the slow process to find out which is which has already been done by a long line of herbalists and biologists, whose discoveries have all been documented in a number of books and scrolls.Popular Books
Alongside the works regarding local flora and fauna (whether official or self-made), one or more of the following books will invariably be found on any Healer's bookshelf.Title | Author |
---|---|
Whitlock's Herbarium | Isobel Whitlock |
Celarruhnian Creatures and their Arcane Attributes | M.Chiashi |
Garden of Healing, How to Grow and Cultivate Your Own Reagents | Shira Feinix |
Arcane Ailments and How to Heal Them | Nil |
Caring for Celarruhn's Creatures | Elwen Thoranon |
There are three main classifications of reagents: plant, animal or magic. However these different reagents are harvested, each witch is strongly encouraged to do so responsibly, never taking too much and handling each creature carefully. Magical reagents are often the trickiest to forage, sometimes requiring specific tools or equipment that novice witches might not have access to.
Once a witch has finished their education and enters employment, they become Novice Healers. There are four tiers to their levels of experience: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert. Witches can advance through these levels at various paces, depending on how confident they are, and how quickly they can prove their competency to the local population. They might not openly refer to themselves as a Healer of particular level, but if a new witch has settled in, it is seen as common sense and a form of respect to not bring a severe case straight to their door. If a truly dire circumstance manifests itself early in a Healer's career, they generally have the resources and contacts to refer a case to someone more capable of dealing with it.
I love them. <3 The list of books is fun, too! I wish I could read all of them. :D
