The Empire of Kaisalis

The Empire of Kaisalis was a global superpower that existed eons ago in the Age of Makers, a magically and technologically advanced empire that expanded across both the realm and the various planes that overlapped the material. While it is believed by many historians and cultural scholars that the main denizens of the Empire were predominantly members of the Astarta race, the precursor race to most if not all of the races on the realm of Aldris, there pockets of evidence that suggest both Elves, Genasi, and the ancestors of other races lived alongside or amongst them.

Structure

  • The Kaisus: This was the king, emperor, and imperator of the worldly empire of Kaisalis during its age of rule, having command over all of the various cities and territories, both floatings and terrestrial. He wielded supreme power over all peoples and places within his grand nation.
  • The Etherlords: These were the lords designated to control and command each of the various great cities of Kaisalis, specifically the floating ones that orbited and constantly traveled across the world.
  • The Utherlords: These were the lords given rulership over the stationary civilizations that were seated upon the lands, deserts, and mountains of the realm.

Culture

  • Indifferent to Divinity: The Kaisilian Empire was known to tolerate most religions, but ultimately held the belief that individuals forged their own destiny and her their own inner power that they could wield, be it arcane mastery or martial prowess. This fostered the focus on Wizardry and Warrior sensibilities, as being bestowed your power through servitude or reverence was viewed as submission and ultimately relinquishing control of one's destiny to another person. In time certain cities would come to outlaw religion altogether, and those who preached submission to gods would be persecuted and even killed.
  • Arcane Expansion: The most powerful heroes and wizards emerged during these times, and this was the age when most ancient arcane magic was developed and classified into the schools we know today.
  • Harnessing Weave and Storm: The Kaisalis Empire relied on the harnessing of both magical power harvested directly from the Weave, as well as the collection of natural electricity from lightning storms, creating lighting modules and empowering technological advancement. Eventually, this would expand into both the imprisonment of or forming alliances with creatures who naturally generated electricity, such as lightning elementals, storm giants, and even the blue and copper dragons themselves.

Assets

  • The Warforged: The Kasilians were known to explore an avenue to immortality by creating magically constructed bodies out of arcane-sensitive metals such as mithril and adamantine, that they would then infuse their souls in upon willing or eventual death in a marriage of necromancy and artifice. It would come to work, allowing people to live decades and even centuries longer than they normally would, as their new metal bodies would never deteriorate due to disease, hunger, or age, and could simply be mended or replaced so long as the proper channel of reconstruction was observed. This made for nearly immortal nobles, unkillable warrior heroes, and eventually the horrid discovery that souls could be taken over and held hostage in these bodies just as well as a soul in an undead body could.

History

  • The War of the Takers: The Empire of Kaisalis found its very first true threat in the form of a cult that emerged from the largely ignored and unexplored underground, a group of malevolent beings who believed their floating cities and refusal to acknowledge the gods as both heresy and insult to their true origins as creations of the gods themselves. This aligned cult would come to be known in history as the All Takers, worshipers of the dark god of imprisonment, torture, and the underground, Torog the Crawling King. The ground-based cities would suffer the most as the All Takers would use powerful geomancy, conjuration, and other methods to sink entire cities into the earth or have them vanish altogether, taken to the maddening domain of their sluggish, horrifying god.
  • The War of Embers: Otherwise known as the Dragon's War, the conflict between the Vow of the Rexes and the Order of the Paragon Scale took a devastating toll on the Kaisilian Empire, as they were often the ones targeted by the airborne creatures who sought to decimate those who would hope to control, mount, and ride them in a gross display of dominance. Still, some cities served as a refuge for dragonkind while others outwardly aligned with them, and many a floating city was decimated and sent crashing into the lands and seas below. It is believed that the old flying city of Dragon's Hill still resides somewhere in the reaches of the various planes, remaining a sanctuary for those who wish to rest.

Demography and Population

The Kaisilian Empire was predominantly formed of the precursor race to many if not all races: the Astarta. However, Elves born after the Fey's Landing and shape-shifted Dragons resided within the many cities.

Military

  • Storm Legion: Due to the Empire's reliance on electricity and lightning generation, they were quick to form many avenues of use for these powers in both everyday life and in times of war. As such, Storm Legion was forced to bring Elementals, Giants, and Dragons to the forefront of conflicts the Empires had, both with foreign invaders, colonization efforts, and sometimes amongst themselves. Eventually, the Warforged would arise to become the symbol and figureheads of this legion, a union between the natural powers of the storm and the ingenuity of the Empire's denizens.

Technological Level

The Empire was highly scientific and studied the Weave and magic extensively, coming up with the Nine Schools of Magic that is used to this day and coming up with electricity, floating cities, developing the Warforged, and various other technological marvels.

Religion

Most if not all of the Kaisilians did not believe in gods, choosing to believe in their own power and ingenuity above all else. There were times where certain cities would actively persecute those who pushed religion on others, viewing it as a push to submit to other powers that would command your destiny.
