Nu’ati (NEW ate ee)
the Immortal Fortress
Nu'ati is the fortress capital of the nations of Nugator on the Thoamaine Peninsula, part of the Western Reach of Ethae. It is both the name of the town as well as the royal castles that is built atop an Arc Stones. Aside from being home to Queen Utica, the royal family, the town of Nu'ati also houses the Immortal Legion and their families, both past and present. If Nugator is a nation of civilian soldiers, Nu'ati is the heart of that.
When outsiders view Nu'ati for the first time, most are surprised. Something that often amuses the natives of the land. Nu'ati looks nothing like the fortress city many expect with high walls and battlements surrounding. Rather, at first glance, Nu'ati is an ideal mountain town with no walls or fortifications. This is a deception that an invading army would regret. The towns first defense is its location high in the mountains of Nugator, with only one winding road leading up. The terrain around the valley where Nu'ati sits is rocky and difficult making it a struggle for large numbers to travel in mass. the town itself is designed to channel movement, with the merchant and commerce districts being in the valleys between the hills where the residential houses sit. The homes of the citizens are clustered close, in groups, on the hills, with bridges connection. The residences are set and designed for ideal archery ancles on the lower districts where invaders would first arrive in the city. Every window and balcony of these homes will be 'decorated' with supplies of arrows, spears, and even rocks or oil that can be used should the city ever be attack. If it ever comes to it, and the town looks as if it will fall, there are many hidden entrances to subterranean tunnels carved into the stone, and leading up to the royal castle on the arc stone. These tunnels are just large enough for citizens to pass single file and everyone goes through training to efficiently travel through if the need arises.
Nu'ati's castle, like the town itself, looks more like a picturesque villa than a military castle. This is by design, and like the town below it is to deceive attacks into a false sense of easy victory. The estates on the top of the arc stone store thousands of arrows to rain down on enemies. Many of the gardens and balconies store ballista and other siege weapons that can be easily rolled out and used to bombard every inch of the region around the castle. Pully elevators are the only way up to the estates, which will be cut in time of a siege to prevent access to the top. Deep inside the arc stone, below the castle, are chambers that can house the entire citizenship of the town as well as store food and water enough to maintain the people for months.
Nu'ati, is a marvel of the mix between form and function. The Nugata claim it the undefeatable fortress. Being so close to the Scaro Wilds, and the war with the Orc of that vile land escalating, perhaps it will be put to the test someday soon.
