Mount Pyere

the Nameless Fortress

Mount Pyere stands at a little over 11,000 feet near the southern reach of the Katiland Range of the Cutting Mountains. It is the southern most of the Elk Sisters, the three mountains (Mount Pyere, Katiland Peak, and Mount Glincore) surrounding Elk Trench, a deep triple valley of the range.

According to Stonefoot Carvings the mountain initial didn't have a name. The Dwarf of the mountains avoiding it, along with the other three Elk Sisters due to the precence of the mysterious Dragon known as Gissru the Shadow. Later, with the rise of the Kephic Empire it was simple called the Nameless Mountain, and later still, the Nameless Fortress. A tradition that continues with the dwarves. Human inhabitants of the mountains, in the Lakorthian Age, gave it the name Pyere. A name whose origins are now lost to history. While maps of the region will list the mountain as Pyere, the dwarves of the Cutting Mountains will still only call it the Nameless Fortress.

Pyere was famous in the Kephic Age for the beacon at its summit, built to warn the region of attacks from the south. The tower of this beacon has crumbled away with history, but the shift drilled down into the stone to hold a vast network of stores and shelter remains, albeit buried in debris and ice. This has made it a popular mountain for adventurers to attempt to climb in the summer, to dig for lost dwarven treasures. Most of these never reach the mountain, hunted by the griffins of Elk Trench, or other beasts of the mountain. Those who reach the peak find the cold, difficult terrain and depth of the shaft impossible to excavate before being forced away by the weather. Tavern rumors claim the mountain haunted, or cursed, to prevent any from finding the secrets within.
