Katiland Range (KAT ah land)

Katin Mountains

The Katiland Range, in older text refered to as the katin Mountains, are the mountains of the western Cutting Mountains, along the eastern edge of Craddle Valley. It is only in Craddle Valley and the rest of Anbar that the Katilands are even acknowledged as anything other than part of the Cutting Mountains. Novyum maps rarely list the Katiland Range, whileJerain cartographers usually list the range as the 'Western Cutting Mountains'. The name dates back to the prehistoric periods. It is the land where the Katilan people settled, living in caves among the Dragon of the mountains. The range gains its name from these myths and legends.

The Katiland Range makes up nearly half of the overall Cutting Mountains. Mount Bifor is the unoffical divide where the main body of the Cutting Mountains end and the Katilands begin. Some scholars have proposed categorizing the Katiland Range as its own separate body through the ages. This is not only because of the sheer volume of the range, but also the stark contrast between the western and eastern Cutting Mountains. The central mountains of the Cutting Mountains are massively tall, eternally ice capped, with deep forested valleys, as opposed to the much more arid, smaller mountains of the west. The Katiland Range also does not suffer from the great storms that can surge in the eastern mountains.

The Katilands have a long history of being the homeland of Red Dragon. While this may contradict the mythical origins of the reds, the range has become synonymous with the dragons. Many of the most famous reds from history and legend are claimed to have lairs in the range. Including Mufu the Lord of Skies, a dragon of legendary status, from the prehistoric periods. In the Craddle Valley, red dragons are often called Katin dragons due to this.
