Naming Traditions

Family names

Araskan family names are ancient, perhaps even older than Araska itself. The noble families come and go but the cities themselves stay there, built in the bygone eras of the world, defiant. Therefore, there are always a set amount of households inside a particular city, and whichever families manage to occupy that household take up its name for themselves.   An example of that would be the Prince of Maggrici, Artori Magrini, is named as such because his family, many generations ago, took over the Magrini household, that just so happens to be the citadel overlooking and leading the city of Maggrici.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The Araskan Noblemen vary in accent, but they mostly speak more than one language. Of course, their first language is almost always New Imperial, but it is considered normal for them to know Old Imperial and other languages.

Shared customary codes and values

Araskan Noblemen are practical people by heart, the only exception being the way they dress.   Their pragmatic nature can be seen by the fact that an Araskan Noblemen, upon meeting one another, will always greet each other; be it using a warm and embracing hug, or a neutral and mechanical nod. This had lead to a sort of "soft-ban" between the Araskan Nobles in actively seeking out another individual just to greet them, choosing, instead, to do it when you have no other option.

Average technological level

The Araskan noblemen rarely innovate in technology, instead of focusing on the creation of high-quality versions of existing technology. At the present day, they are comfortably sitting on a late medieval level of technology.

Common Etiquette rules

Araskan Noblemen, as their name implies, are very polite to almost everybody, say for the pesants, no matter if they are enemies or friends. This is the origin of their fame as "false people".

Common Dress code

The Raskan Noblemen, as already mentioned before, dress in a flamboyant and colorful way. There are exceptions, however. Queen Valentina, for example, cared little for her outside appearance, often just dressing the way she felt more comfortable or was the most practical.   This extents to their arms and armour, with most of the noblemen born warriors using white, gold, red and other colours for their armour, who often boast carved patterns and shapes.

Art & Architecture

Noblemen architecture is extremely old, with most of their buildings being so old nobody remembers who even built them. When they themselves build something new it is often elaborate as well as very well built, with the only exception being structures built to be either used or frequented by peasants. In that case, buildings are practical and functional. Nothing less and nothing more.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Araskan Noblemen will always greet themselves if they can't avoid it and it is considered extremely disrespectful to not do so.   Araskan Noblemen pretty much always attempt to "out-dress" each other when in a formal environment, with a heavy emphasis on their head and feet dress.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

Every single newborn, be it wanted or not, is celebrated with a feast. Individual families make different feasts, but they always have an emphasis on giving the newborn useful things such as clothing, diapers, cribs and so on.

Coming of Age Rites

Araskan Noblemen do not have any overarching coming of age rites, instead, individual families have different rites, ranging from literal school tests to various combat trials.

Funerary and Memorial customs

In general, Araskan Noblemen bury their dead in vast catacombs below each of their households. Some households, especially the smaller ones, do not have catacombs so their owning families instead cremate their dead and put them in extremely ornate urns, typically depicting the accomplishments (and sometimes the failures) of the dead in question. Said urns are stored in a specific purpose-built room.

Common Taboos

Although homosexual relationships are quite normal between the Araskan Noblemen, incest is particularly looked down at.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

The Araskan Noblemen like to dress in flamboyant clothes, with plenty of colorful and imported fur and many different colors.

Gender Ideals

Unlike most other peoples from both within the Empire and from abroad, the Araskan Noblemen are quite open-minded when it comes to gender ideals. It is more common, of course, for men to be warriors and women to become ladies, for example, but, should an individual choose to take on an unorthodox path, there is very little stopping said, individual. A great example of this is the Bloodied Queen of the Free Cities, Valentina Altieri, who chose to become a great warrior, as well as a cunning politician (on ocasions)

Relationship Ideals

The Araskan Noblemen value love, just like most other ethnic groups. However, they will almost always choose a marriage of convenience, should it bring great benefit to them or their house, over the so-called "true love".   Therefore, a relationship does not need to be between a man and a woman, nor does it need to be love filled, for it t9o be held up as an example.

Major organizations

The Araskan Noblemen are part of individual and distinct noble houses and families, but they all answer to whichever person is currently governing the Province of Araska.
