Dagger of Request

Concept and Written by James Woodwright
A Dagger of Request is a simple dagger that has a brand of the Protector's name. This is given to a charge that the Protector trusts. Upon returning to the Protectors' Guild the dagger can be handed in to get that Protector again, if they are available.   The dagger itself is a simple dagger that a commoner can buy, what makes it a dagger of recommendation is the brand on the wooden handle. The dagger is this cheap as to disadvantage the Protector as it comes out of their own funds.   There are rules regarding getting the Dagger, these weight rules are:
  • Respect for the Protector - The person being protected must demonstrate respect toward the protector throughout the quest.
  • Completion of the Quest - The protected individual must see the quest through to the end without abandoning it.
  • Adherence to Instructions - The protected must follow the protector's instructions.
  • No Asking for the Dagger - If the protected asks directly for a dagger of recommendation, they are unlikely to receive one.
  • Behavior During the Journey - The protected’s behavior throughout the quest is observed, including how they treat the protector and others.
  • Trust in the Protector's Judgment - The protected must trust the protector’s decisions and expertise throughout the journey.
  • Mutual Dependence - The protector and protected must work together, with neither abandoning the other.
  • Mechanics & Inner Workings

Its a simple dagger that has steel or iron from handle to tip with two wooden halves that are riveted on.

    Manufacturing process

The dagger is made like any other dagger but when purchased as one is branded on the handle to tell the Guild Master of the Protectors Guild who is the Protector to come with the charge.

Its significance is that the Dagger means they have had a Protector before that trusts them. The dagger loses its significance once either parties die, but the dagger is passed one down family lines.
