Cynthera
Cynthera as we know it was founded in 88 Before The Cataclysm by the Mother of the Magic Bloodline, Lysandra Nyarus. But, the city stands on old grounds. The Elven City of Ilethnaes stood there before, and it was the oldest still standing settlement on the Land of Dragons.
The people of Ilethnaes were peaceful and wise, wood elves who worked in symbiose with nature. The city was unequalled in sylvan diversity and famous for its arts. Yet, the wood elves were neither warriors or mages. When the founders arrived, they were quickly forced to accept them into their territory and see their lands seized. Open war, another disaster for the people of Ilethnaes, didn’t arrive before decades, but just five years after their arrival, the humans had taken the city and made it theirs. They renamed it for a lost queen of theirs and put the wood elves to work, slaves in everything but name (they were in fact declared as slaves after the War of the Dragon Princes, in accordance with the kingdom slavery laws). Through the years, wood elven culture was mostly lost. The sylvan people scattered in the Forest of Foveros until the city was almost only inhabited by elves and humans.
However, the Dragon Princes did bring to good to the city. Under the Nyarus’ rule, the city’s population tripled and defences were built for the first time. With them make money and merchant, offering the wood elves a part in the realm’s commerce. But the most important change happened in 75 BTC. Princess Lysandra created Scaesia’s first artificial Well of Magic. Since then, the city shined with magic and became the heart of Scaesia’s arcane activities with the Nyarus' Church of Knowledge and the guarded access the first magic school of the continent; the Altar of Erystranity in Ioresta. This last institution, also founded by Lysandra, is centered around natural Well, making Foveros the most potent arcanic region of Scaesia (with two of the biggest Wells).
