Zeriah - Goddess of Death

Zeriah – (LG?) The goddess of death, despair, and darkness. Basically Hades. Tasked with taking those who have died to their resting place, either in her ‘limbo’ of sorts, or transporting them to their plane of existence per god they served. Often referred to as married to Aster, who also runs this ‘limbo’, but a separate part of it for crimes. Her part is simply for those with no realm to pass on to. A true limbo.   Follower Recognition: Mostly worshipped by grave keepers, clerics and healers, and grieving families.   Associated Symbols/Customs: Associated Symbols of Zeriah are few and far between, but in some cases special pendant jewelry pieces are made for funeral services, in which a single gold piece is burnt until charred and blackened, then pierced and tied into a necklace with cloth or string, and placed around the neck of the deceased. When the body is burnt/buried, the gold piece is meant to remain with the deceased after death, remaining with them as they pass on and are taken by Zeriah. It's believed that the piece indicates true death, in which they died protecting or being loved by those around them, in theory helping incentivize mercy on behalf of the gods and showing the true good hearted nature of the deceased in which others would do such a thing for them, and is not meant as a monetary bribe. The ceremony on behalf of those performing it is mostly quiet and a time to mourn, and is quite personal. It's believed that even if the deceased is not taken in by another god, and remains in the limbo state under Zeriah's patronage, the deceased will at least be in easier company knowing that they left behind a legacy and will be remembered, and will help whatever they may find themselves in for the rest of their afterlife.
