THYRA Settlement in Akayun's Worlds | World Anvil

THYRA

Thyra, the City of Pillars, stands at the heart of the Astral Sea. Under the paradigm of the Blood War Truce, it has become the center of inter-world trade and politics under the rule of Queen Altani, Goddess of the Stars. The Astral Sea is an expanse of luminescent gas and liquid, with stony terrain sprouting from above and below.

Pillars

Thyra consists of seven major pillars. Each of the pillars also carry epithets releted to the Disciples of Altani, heroes from the Blood War. Each pillar is either referred to by their number (e.g. the Third Pillar or the Third) or epithet (e.g. The Judge) in speech. With the exception of the Fifth, every pillar has a great religious building dedicated to the venerated disciples, used both for governance of that pillar and a larger or roll within the city.

1 The Queen

The largest and most central of the seven pillars, the First is the hub of the city. The train and aqueduct network all leads back to the Queen, making it a keystone in the infrastructure of the city. Many major factions of the city are either based here or have at least set down roots in this pillar. The Temple of Faseles, a church to the goddess of fortune and the sea, functions as the meeting place for the Faseles Guilds. The second Lashgur Manor is located in the Aurora alongside the House of Volad Otomas Vlidam. Many schools of the Pillar Academies are run in the Specterlake district. Even below rebelious factions meet in the lower tiers of the Queen.

Acropolis Altani

Central governing complex of the Thyra

2 The Wanderer

If you're visiting Thyra, the wanderer is the first place you land. The wanderer has the many large marketplaces and frivolous amenities to enjoy, naturally formed to take in the influx of merchants and tourists. Starfall Tower, the midpoint of the Starfall Trade Route connects to the Wanderer, is largely responsible for the Second's status as the hub of trade. Naturally, the Wanderer is where The Medallion's influence is the strongest.

Temple of St. Ilie

Raises and trains the clerics of Altani. Also Responsible for tracking the imports, exports, and migration in and out of Thyra.

3 The Judge

The Judge is considered to be the pillar where the power of the Church is the fiercest. Besides the Acropolis Altani, the Cathedral of the Third is the grandest amongst the church bulidings, and being the court of law has some of the most respected and powerful priests in the city. Even so, the first manor of the Lashgur Clan is located on the Third, a testament to how truly powerful the dwarvish family is.

St. Kenor's Cathedral

The highest judicial authority in Thyra

4 The Giver

The Fourth is said to be the most holy of the pillars. While throughout history the city has had military conflicts from time to time, the Giver was always left alone. Even its twin holy buildings, to do with life and death, are said to have the most devout of the saints.

St. Serena's Sanctuary and St. Livol's Mausoleum

Church health services and welfare.

5 The Heretic

As its name would suggest, the Fifth is beyond the Church's control. Many unregulated gates to other reaches of the Worlds are located there, making extraplanar incursions common place. Rebel groups against the Church often form on the heretic as well. Among the factions, only the Medallion has properly established themselves there in any official manor, constructing an astroport and regulating the small district of Banesfield.

6 The Ponderer

The Sixth is a hub of learning, home to the Grand Library and essentially governed between the Church and the Pillar Academies. Students and scholars from across the Worlds convene on the Ponderer.

Grand Library of St. Nisimel

The largest public library in all of Akayun's Worlds

7 The Sentinel

Despite even the Heretic, the Seventh is seen to be the most enigmatic to an outsider of the city. While controlled by the church, the leadership at the Bastion has the most independent structure from the rest of the priesthood. The Sentinel has been long prepared to be the last hold if Thyra ever crumbles into chaos. The Dorumat Society, a loose organization of nobility sent as envoys from their home countries, most often convene and store resources on the Sentinel. Under the belief that the Seventh is the most defensible, the Pillar Academies also store a massive amount of archives in a Citadel beneath the cloudmist on the Sentinel.

Bastion of St. Megata

Used as an armory, storing military equipment for the city guard and army run by the Church.

Tiers

Thyra, unlike most cities on Dohralun, is a very three-dimensional city. Each pillar is divided into five according to the different tiers of the astral sea, and the traits of the tiers themselves have a lot of influence on the industry and class structure of each pillar.

Starlight

The tier open to the sky of the Astral Sea, it is the most common tier to sail in above the aurora. This is the area most commonly thought of as the average Thyra to an outsider, and most of what an outsider will see. Many businesses, markets, and residential areas are located on starlight.

Aurora

The tier of dancing lights, second most common tier to sail in above the clouds. The aurora tier is more primarily residential compared to Starlight, and is where much of the infrastructure like the aqueducts is located. This tier is also considered to be the wealthiest tier, because many of the long established denizens of the city have set down roots there.

Cloudmist

This tier is filled with humid fog, creating an environment well-suited for many different plants. Most of this tier, largely run be the Faseles Guilds' Cloudmist Agricultural Company, is used agriculturally, growing food and Faercoa Vines. Because the mist blocks line of sight to the shadier underbelly of the city, 'beneath the Cloudmist' has caught as a colloqueal expression to mean out of sight of the public, where the public does not want to see.

Gloomwind

Most industrial facilities are located in the gloomwind. The Gloodmwind is plagued with disease and poverty. The harsh and thick-air requires masks to breathe through. Denizens of the gloomwind are not looked upon kindly in the city above.

Liquid

Almost uninhabitable and yet used for the production of Lumene. No resedential areas are present but many laborers are required to work here to keep the city powered and running.
