The Medallion

The Medallion is a commerce guild based in Thyra. They control both the Starfall trade route and the Equinox Freighters used to traverse them, having established the route in 1051 with the invention of Equinox Freighters. Beyond that, they run the Astroports, the fastest premium transport between the City of Pillars and the Astral Sea, design and produce state of the art vehicles, and maintain a small but formidable military force.

History

The Medallion began as a small freighting guild part of the Faseles Guilds. In 1022 the Medallion merged with the Aurora Shipbuilding Company. Sometime in the mid 1030s a trade route using the Starfalls was proposed, and the Chief Engineer Olo Ankibi began design on the Equinox Freighters, capable of traveling up and down the falls. Even once design was done the ship took 5 years to finish building, and in 1051 the The Brass Tide set course for Pamxkaato from Thyra, followed soon after by new ships in 1053, 1057, and 1062, gradually improving the early design. In 1069 the Winter Dream, first of the Twilight Class ships was released, alongside the completion of Starfall Tower, which runs along the falls controlling the flow of water and guiding the freighters. In 1094 the Petrichor Class of ships were launched, which are remain the most recent class of equinox freighter to the current day. Two years later in 1096 the first Astroport lines were opened. In 1101 the Brass Tide was decommissioned, and the following year Olo Ankibi passed away. That same year, Brass Tket took leadership of the Medallion as Lustercast, and has held that position now for more than 25 years.

Enterprises

Starfall Trade

From Port Loatona of Pamkxaato Bay, through the Wanderer in Thyra, to Verna in the Heart of Limiore, the trade route connects two opposite ends of the earth to the core of the Worlds. While the fares from the transport of goods and passangers themselves provide a suprisingly small fraction of the Medallion's revenue, the transport service creates the basis for the Medallion's economic power. High profile luxury goods are kept secure for high prices; the import and export of every product is tracked in the books, information that can be sold for high prices; the ports run by the Medallion, with their food and their lodging, become bustling with customers. For a freighting and commerce guild, the more people who walk through their city the more gold they earn.

Astroports

Within the City of Pillars, the Aqueduct Bridges have long been the people's way between the Pillars of the city. In 1026, a couple years after the discovery of Lumene, trains began to be laid upon these bridges, democratizing relatively quick travel between the city.

Now, the Medallion provides an appealing alternative for the budding class of the moderately wealthy. For a price of only 4 tickets for the train, you can travel faster than ever between the pillars aboard their Comet Class vessels. You can see the view above the city and admire it in its greatness. You can escape the cramped seats to a comfortable quarters. Have rest in the starlight

Beyond Thyra, the Medallion also provides transport to other cities and settlements in the Astral Sea aboard their long distance Dragon Class vessels.

Shipbuilding

This branch of the guild designs and constructs the ships required by their other sectors, as well as performs maintainance after each and every weathering trip. Vessels are not privately designed and sold, because the Medallion guards its technology jealously.

Other Enterprises

Bank

While not the largest bank in the city, still up against Faseles affiliated Banker Guilds, the Medallion Bank provides a powerful source of capital and investment.

Theater

By initiative of Lustercast Tket, the Medallion began to buy up Theater's around the city, supporting acting troupes and playwrights. Some of the Medallion's engineers even become part of production, innovating what can be done on stage with complex mechanisms and illusory magic. The name of the guild on every sign and every poster of each show brings the Medallion closer to the hearts of the people, whether they know it or not.

Leadership

Lustercast Brass Tket

Brass Tket was an Nkrult orphan, taken under Olo and the Medallion's wing when the guild was still budding and small. She grew alongside the Medallion, learning the workings of the engineering and administration. The Medallion is her greatest love since childhood.

Now the leader, Lustercast of the Medallion, Tket has taken to properly establishing the Medallion as a political force, building upon the great enterprises that had been built up before her. She has spent her time as Lustercast forming alliances, collecting information, and stacking contingency upon contingency upon contingency. She also spends a great amount of effort to make the Medallion a guild of the people and for the people, in the eyes of the people. Among the major players in the great game of Thyra, the Medallion is the youngest, so she makes up for lost time this way.

Olunt Kalathi, Security Admiral. A Goliath who was the first commander of the Bellboot Brigade, he is now in charge of all security throughout the organization and the command of the Medallion's military forces.

Military Forces

Under Admiral Olunt Kalathi, a small but powerful martial force is trained and maintained by the Medallion.

The Bellboot Brigade

The Bellboot Brigate is likely the most elite experienced military unit in Thyra. Consisting of only 20 members, the brigade has been maintained since 1052, soon after the launch of the Brass Tide. It functioned as the primary guard for the first Equinox Freighters until they were decommissioned. Now the brigade functions as a powerful infantry unit sent to resolve any complications with brevity. The brigade has seen numerous attempts of terrorism, many assassinations, attempted boarding attacks, and many more incidents throughout their existence. No one crosses the Bellboot Brigade.

The Twilight Treasure

Founded along side the launch of the Twilight Class freighters, the Twilight Treasure is a rare avian unit. Through the innovative technology used in the new line of ships, a unit of heavily armed flying soldiers could now be mustered by the Medallion. The Twilight Treasure are still in service as the guard to the freighters, but also serve a ceremonial role in any events related to the freighters. Only rarely can the full might of the Twilight Treasure be seen, but when they are seen, accounts of terrifying coordination and prowess spread fast by word of mouth.

The Petrichor Wind

The Petrichor Wind was founded with the launch of the Petrichor Class freighters, but also alongside the spy network of the medallion. Their purpose and capabilities remain quite elusive despite lots of speculation.

Medallion Guard

Many squads of rank and file soldiers are also enlisted to guard the ships and facilities of the Medallion.
