Tirikan

The province of Tirikan lies in the deep jungles in the south of the Empire of the Southern Sun, between the coastal jungles of Oolian and the borders of Elysium. Rich in elemental energy, in the days before the Empire it was the home of the Chromacy, seven linked and feuding kingdoms ruled by the Grung. The Chromates were a sophisticated and advanced civilisation, adherent to the Elemental Princes, with a cultural of slavery and blood sacrifice which grew as the demands of the Princes grew. At last, the grung of Genasi blood led a rebellion under the guidance of Tirika the Great and in the name of the Gods of Foundation and united the beaten and bloodied remnants of the Chromates in time to muster a unified defence against the advancing forces of the sea people out of Oolian.
Modern Tirikan's administrative structure is stil based on the seven kingdoms of the Chromates, with their great temple-cities as urban hubs. There is no more slavery, but class divisions are wide. The ziggurats still host blood sacrifices, albeit only of willing victims selected by lotteries of volunteers whose families receive great blessings, both spiritual and material. These sacrifices are an embodiment of a philosophy which elevates family over the individual, community over family, and society as a whole over the community. The body politic is invested in the person of the houses and their leaders, and ultimately the Chromarch of House Tirika.
