Orders of Purity

The Orders of Purity are dedicated to the destruction of any and all remaining servants of the Dark Lords, including both their supernatural servants and the forces of the Neo-Legion. They are fanatical, to a terrifying degree, and utilise methods which others would baulk at. Their origins in the closing years of the Legion-Regime Wars are connected to those of the Orders of the Forbidden who operate in the north of the continent, the two groups collectively known as the Orders of Bloodhunters.
The original Order of Purity was formed with the intention of turning the weapons of the Dark Lords, and especially of their Divine Champions against them. They were one of a number of renegade groups which formed before The Uprising, but one of the most ambitious and successful. Working with their northern allies, they found ways to steal at least some of the powers of the champions through the creation of their own version of the Hunter's Bane. During the Uprising, the Order joined forces with the other rebels and leant their peculiar strengths to the cause. As a result, when the city of Empty Tomb was raised, they were granted the right to form a House, the House of Perdition, and become the custodians of the Accursed Dead.
The original Order of Purity was somewhat unfocused, its members wielding an unpredictable range of powers. In the centuries since, they have perfected their methods, devised means of guiding initiates and focusing their development, and in so doing divided into five distinct orders.

• The Order of Spirits' Bane hunt undead and extraplanar beings, especially those linked to the Dark Lords. They have responsibility for the Accursed Dead below the House of Perdition, and also take responsibility for combating the influence of the Neo-Legion.
• The Order of the Shadowed Path dedicate themselves to stealing the remaining power of the Dark Lords to wield against their mortal agents. Its members consider their actions to be necessary, but damning, and so they undergo ritual death while taking the Bane, rejecting all further part in the society they protect. They have a close, but somewhat contentious working relationship with the Order of Black Glass.
• The Order of Black Glass focus on the collection and destruction of artefacts of the Dark Lords. Many of its members are scholars and explorers and do not take the Bane at all.
• The Order of the Beast developed from those who were infected with the shapeshifting powers of certain Divine Champions. They are expert trackers and beastslayers, with the ability to assume a stronger, more bestial form.
• The Order of the Serpent are an order who aim their ire at the Yuan-ti to the north. Experimentalists, they manipulate recipes stolen from the Yuan-ti to fuel their own powers, perfect the alchemy of the Orders as a whole, and in some cases adopt the methods of the Order of the Beast to ape the ophidian transformations of their enemy.
