Khaz'zpel
Dwarven glyphs (Khaz'zpel - speech in stone, distinct from the sacred Stone Speech, KhaZpel) are a purely phonemic script. Unlike giant or orc, there are no ideogramattic glyphs, nor do they have meanings beyond the phonemic. Each phoneme is represented by a simple glyph. In ordinary use, these are strung together into linear words, but arcane and ceremonial writings or inscriptions that are yet too trivial to warrant the sacred marks may, instead, use compound glyphs, the letters of a word combined into a complex, geometric form. In magical workings, multiple compound glyphs are layered into Power Glyphs.
The most common set of numerals used in Aiaos is the dwarven decimal glyphs, called otunNa (ten numbers.)
The Dwarfs were the first mortals to devise a numerical system using place value. They also developed a base seven system (sevNa) used for sacred mathematics, but the decimal system has always been preferred for mundane calculation. The utility of the system means that most lineages have adopted both the system and its glyphs for all formal mathematics.
