Beholders
Beholders are among the most alien and terrifying of the Outerfolk hordes. Like all Outerfolk, they must cloak themselves in flesh to survive in the World, but they resent this necessity and give it the least consideration that they can, such that their mortal forms are mere balls of muscle, bone and skin, with one great eye and numerous lesser eye stalks sprouting from the mass. They float, scorning material limbs and gravity alike, and their gaze disrupts the fragile nature of the World. Within this horrid form, they bear the warped and distorting influence of worlds far beyond the Void, which can allow their half-dreaming, never-sleeping minds to create pocket realms where the laws of nature do not apply. They are closely linked to the art of Red Dunamancy, and the power to fracture the harmony of the world.
Some served as the commanders of special detachments in the forces of the Colossi, others as agents of chaos or advisers to more powerful or favoured servants of the Colossi. Without the wider hierarchy of an Outerfolk army, they either seize control of hidden lairs in which to dream their terrible dreams, or else seek out petty domains to rule over. Beholders powerful enough to rule, as generals or as despots, are usually refered to by other Outerfolk as 'eye tyrants.'
