The Stormstriker

The Stormstriker is a legendary pirate ship that was said to have plundered islands in the Mediterranean Sea between 1450 BCE and 1350 BCE. It was crewed entirely by marine Whims, and always captained by women. The pirates included mermaids, naiads, sirens, and undines.

Summary

The Stormstriker was a massive ship that was known to plunder other trade vessels in the ancient Mediterranean, especially in the immediate vicinity of Greece. They would never kill their victims, but they'd do whatever they had to do in order to get away with their bounty. Indeed, they always got away.

Historical Basis

There was definitely a pirate ship called the Stormstriker, and witnesses confirmed that many of the pirates were women. However, they couldn't be absolutely certain that all of the crew members were women. Witnesses also swore up and down that they were mythical creatures, but of course this was never proven.

Spread

The legend of the Stormstriker was well known during ancient times, but these days the only people who know about it are history buffs and Whims. Even the Whims aren't totally sure how much about the Stormstriker legend is real, but Greek marine Whims love claiming that they used to be on the Stormstriker's crew, or they knew someone who knew someone who was.

Variations & Mutation

Sometimes the story holds that the Stormstriker itself was made out of water, like a massive wave engulfing every ship it ran into, or that it was an amorphous storm cloud crackling with lightning. Sometimes the crew is said to be all sirens, and that they would toy with their prey and drown them before sailing away. And of course, for insecure men who wanted to prevent the women around them from getting inspired, they insisted that they had all been captured and executed long ago.

In Art

There are a few songs about the Stormstriker, as well as a cavalcade of paintings.
