Portable Dampening Field
Energy is energy!
Armor is not an uncommon thing for either Thunthen or Thangiens to don when venturing into hazardous environments, but there are harmful effects encountered on remote locations such as the ice-grave Planet Frono or smoldering hellscape Planet Khilio that can spell doom for even the strongest Nobeyl. Full-body environmental suits are impractical for the lumbering Thunthen and even the signature armor of the Obsidian Guard cannot protect against everything. To this end various devices were invented to counteract harmful effects whether radiation or crushing heat. Thunthen roll their eyes at the mention of "magic", but have had centuries to analyze and identify various frequencies and their impacts on lifeforms. This device wielded by the elderly Tar Uhnin is one such invention, but to a less technologically-advanced race might appear as a magic staff soothing ills.
Utility
Expeditions to Planet Khilio rely upon these devices to shield themselves from Thuruk 2's intense heat and radiation. The mount is collapsible and compact enough to be stashed under a shell.
Manufacturing
The amplifier forks and energy coils can be assembled on the fly from base components but still require a phergon energy cell or a portable closed-fusion reactor to operate.

Events of Fight Alone
“Ahhgh! For the last time! There is no such thing as magic! Energy is energy!” Tar bellowed and turned around, carrying what looked like a spear of some sort in one hand. Mia recoiled, startled by his anger as he raised the spear up before impaling it into the floor. A segmented coil at the top flickered to life and a shimmering field of bluish energy erupted, forming a dome around them all. Michelle blinked upon feeling the sickness lift from her body. Kayura felt reinvigorated and Ryu burbled and began waving his arms, much to Mia’s delight. “It is as I suspected…” Tar whispered as he stared at the rod. “That anomaly generates a form of low-level radiation that impairs the higher brain functions a psychokinetic-‘mystic’-relies upon for their power. This is a portable dampening field we use against similar forms of radiation in hazardous environments."
Bautan-successor to Badamon and Talpa's chief sorcerer-foolishly breaks a seal allowing powerful demonic entities to enter the Mortal Realm. Nothing at all like yokai or daeva, the portal emits a powerful oppressive aura that encompasses nearly the entire globe, reaching as far as Scotland, Europe and Arizona, United States. Not only does the aura impair the fighting abilities of the Ronin Warriors but affects spiritually sensitive individuals such as the Mystics (Kayura, Michelle, and Shannon) and even encapsulated spirits like WILDCAT and Pegasi. Not even Ryo's infant son Ryu is immune from the effects. Civilians such as William Walking Cloud and Father Malcolm Douglas can sense the evil from so far away.
With Bak Thraplek and most of the crew assisting the Ronin, elderly Tar Uhnin remains in the Roost to devise a way to aid the ailing Mystics. He hastily assembles a shield staff and deploys it in the infirmary, reinvigorating the Mystics and little Ryu. Theorizing he could amplify its output to cover most of the region, he seeks out an elevated position to set up a dampening array. After an unfortunate run-in with a mind-controlled Sehkmet, Tar deploys the field to give the Ronin enough of an edge to recover from their fatigue.
Tar Uhnin had to enter the skyscraper from the ground level, as lightning streaking overhead made it impossible to go the rest of the way on the skybike. He barged into the emergency stairwell and pelted up the staircase rapidly. A security guard on duty remained too absorbed in flipping through a manga novel to notice when an elderly bipedal dinosaur paused in the stairwell, keel over panting slightly, before continuing up the stairs. I’m getting too old for this… Tar finally reached the roof level and burst out onto the rooftop. He retrieved the components from his shell and set to assembling a dampening field array.
Events of Cataclysm War
Tar did not get the chance to deploy an array during the Cataclysm due to the peculiar total lack of radiation of any form nor did he think to bring one to Thanged for the Blood Dawn. Kayura and Danae find themselves pursued by a vengeful Roland Ekrich, a mortal foe of Danae's father Ander. Kayura notices the solar conjunction prevents her from using the Staff of Ancients and comments to Danae about Tar's theory regarding low-level radiation and psychokinetics, or mystics.
Parent Technologies
He resumed assembling the array and mounted it next to the broadcasting antenna on the rooftop. He switched on the generator and the coils erupted with blue light, casting a shimmering field over the entire city, all the way to the coast.
Access & Availability
Components must be manufactured on the homeworld but can be easily assembled by an expert technician or medic.
Complexity
The coil itself is the most intricate part composed of various layers of coated and tempered glass, wire, and liquid crystal. The coil remains closed while inactive and expands when powered.
Discovery
An offshoot of research into Phergon and its various applications, dampening fields were observed to protect against intense solar radiation encountered on Planet Khilio and extreme cold on Planet Frono.

Ryo’s eyes snapped open and the Heart of Virtue flared on his forehead. He grunted and pulled himself up off the ground, feeling renewed strength in his body. His wound had stopped bleeding. He spat blood onto the ground and looked up at the sky, seeing brilliant blue counteracting the sickening red.
