Hadboro Settlement in After Earth | World Anvil

Hadboro

Newly bustling town that has seen a recent surge of tourism due to a religious discovery made by Alexander Satari. The town upon first look was obviously small, with the only necessary buildings for a farming community to function. With all the tourists coming in, pop up buildings have been erected. Most new buildings are made of quick cheap materials, but there are a few exceptions to the rule, like the Hoffmeister Inn or Boudon's Tavern. You can still find the old but now renovated Barnaby and Son's general store. With the town growing in size it is finally getting it's own Orange Order.

Demographics

Used to be made up of about 500 people, mix of farming families and people who helped support the farmers.

Industry & Trade

Most farms here are actually not farming as much as tempering the soil into a extremely durable rare glass, known as Crystaclear. The plot of land handboro sits on is made up of an extremely high concentration of powdered iron and a bit of sand. This soil is then placed into a graphite mold and it's pressure is raised to just under 1,000 atmospheres. They then zap the powder with an electric current, heating it to 1166°F (630°C), causing it to bind together without ever becoming liquid. This forced the iron to form a glass-like structure rather than the highly organised cyrstalline structure seen in most metals.

History

Used to be a small farming town up until a few years ago when it became bustling with tourism and migration due to Alexander Satari beginning the vision quest in which he discovered Laura Compson's journal. It is now the second most traveled to location on the planet (the first being the home/temple of Laura Compson).
