Leagore
Leagore is a major port city on the southeastern coast of Agyra. It is a bustling port city that stretches across a series of canals, surrounded by lush hills and vineyards. Thanks to it's opportune location next ot the Confluence of Currents, it has become the center of trade between Argyra and the rest of the ocean. Leagore is also Argyra's biggest city, and one of the largest in all of Aeziron.
The canals themselves are the lifeblood of the city, with brightly painted gondolas and barges transporting goods and people between the various wards. Many of the buildings in the city are constructed along the canals, with narrow alleyways and footbridges connecting them to one another. Newer buildings are made out of marble and limestone, while older ones are built out of actual ship parts. Despite its wealth and prosperity, Leagore is also a city of contrasts, with pockets of poverty and squalor hidden among its grand buildings and bustling marketplaces.
Current Rulers
Lord Zenric Pagonis is the head of the House Pagonis, a merchant family that has only recently held power over Leagore. For decades now, the family has controlled the city's bustling markets and trade routes, building their wealth and influence through shrewd business judgments and strategic alliances. Zenric himself is a canny and pragmatic ruler, with a sharp mind for politics and economics. He is deeply invested in maintaining the prosperity of his city and its people, and is known to be a fair and just leader. However, some critics claim that his family's grip on power has made it difficult for newcomers to gain a foothold in the city's lucrative trade industry. The Shipwrecks (307 AKD). In 307 AKD, just off the southern coastline of Leagore, a bunch of ocean currents suddenly appeared. This is referred to as the Confluence of Currents, and is still an unexplained phenomenon to this day. When they first appeared, it sent ships and their sailors widely off track. Many crashed into Leagore's shore long before it was ever founded as a city. Leagore's Founding (315 AKD). Some of these shipwrecks cost people their livelihoods. And without anywhere else to go, these unfortunate people started to make their homes here. Many made homes out of whatever ship parts they could salvage. Eventually people got used to the new currents, and stopped crashing into Leagore's shore. Once this problem was solved the Confluence became a hotspot for travelers, allowing people to sail through the seas on certain routes much quicker than before. So as people passed through the currents, they would stop to rest and trade at the nearest establishment possible, which happened to be Leagore. With Leagore's growing wealth and popularity it was finally founded as a town in 315 AKD, and was led by House Canavan. This position was given to the militaristic family by the Council of Vigilance. A New Ruler (480 AKD). For more than a century, House Canavan ruled Leagore. Despite the economic importance of Leagore, the Canavan were more concerned about Agyra's Navy, and the Revenant Army. This was clear by the choices and laws they made, and where most of the city's taxes went. With a new era of peace across Aeziron, most felt the army wasn't needed. They were practically Canavan's test subjects, sent out to uncharted waters in hopes to find more riches. When their efforts kept turning up fruitless, some decided that enough was enough. One night the lord and lady of House Canavan were killed, and their kids nowhere to be found. Before news broke, Adara Pagonis, the lady of a minor merchant family that sold wine, seized Canavan's power and control by force. Although many suspected that she killed the Canavans, no evidence was actually found. She also had the support of most of the Council and people, and was allowed to keep her power. As expected, most people rejoyced. The Pagonis family have been ruling ever since, and they rarely have disappointed their people. The Sewers (620 AKD). In the past few months, rumors have spread from Leagore about ancient riches below the town. This has caused both locals and tourists to go delving into Leagore's sewers, despite Lord Pagonis urging people to not. Guards have since then been stationed around manholes, and anyone who attempts to enter or exit is caught and arrested.General Information
