Karmorden
Kamorden is a mining town built into the southwestern side of the Northern Pass. Both the weather and community is unpleasant, and Kamordans prefer to stay out of everyone’s business but their own. Despite their offputting attitude, Karmorden is still a respected town that flourishes off trade.
The mining town exports all kinds of minerals from their mines, but are mostly known for their gorgeous emeralds. The town also has plenty of master smiths, which are able to forge beautiful weapons and armor.
Current Rulers
Lord Medeo Petros is a dwarvish man. He's been ruling for only a century, but his family's reign over the town dates all the way back to the town's founding. The family is well respected by both their nation and town. Lord Petros oversees the mines exports, and keeps peace with neighboring settlements.Notable Locations
Hightown.
Hightown is built on a cliff, overlooking the grassy fields below at the base of the Northern pass. The district is small and cramped, with tons of shaggy and worn down buildings built directly next to eachother with little space in between. The few paths and streets there are are lined with naturally growing asters and and larkspurs, which seem to survive even Karmorden's harshest winters. Most poorer everyday folk live here, with the exception of a few merhcants. The Broken Anvil. This rundown tavern is a popular spot for miners to unwind after a long day of work. The wooden building has seen better days and is in need of repair, but the drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is lively. Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds is an intersection of streets located in the center of town. Here is where festivals and celebrations are held year round. When there is nothing going on however, vendors often set up shop here. Rat's Nest. This ramshackle tenement houses many of Hightown's poorest residents. The wooden building is in a constant state of disrepair, and the living conditions are cramped and squalid. The Crossing. This sturdy, stone bridge connects Hightown to Darktown, and is the only way for residents of Hightown to reach the mines. There are of course other entrances in and out of the mines, but those ones are generally too risky to traverse through.Darktown.
Darktown is the district located inside the actual mines and caverns of Karmorden. Despite its dark and dangerous location, it is a well-established and prosperous place, where miners and smiths live and work. The buildings in Darktown are solidly built and ornate, made of stone and metal salvaged from the mines. The streets are wide and well-paved, and decorated with colorful lanterns and crystals that illuminate the underground tunnels. There are also some upscale shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues in Darktown, catering to the well-paid miners and their families. Emberforge. This massive building looms in one of the lowest levels of Darktown, with smoke and the sounds of clanging metal emanating from within. It is the center of all smithing and metalworking in the town, and is said to be blessed by the fiery god Purphoros himself. Inside, master craftsmen work tirelessly to create weapons, armor, and other metal goods of unparalleled quality. The forge's main chamber is dominated by a massive, magical furnace that burns hotter and longer than any natural fire, allowing the smiths to work with even the most difficult of metals. The forge is also home to a small shrine to Purphoros, where the faithful come to offer prayers and seek the god's favor in their work. Miner's Hall. The Miner's Hall is a meeting hall for the miners where they gather to discuss wages, safety, and working conditions. It also serves as a small clinic where the workers are treated for injuries and illnesses suffered in the mines. The hall also houses one of the main pulley systems to get down into the mines. Most miner's live in or around the hall, which has been nicknamed "The Barracks". Petros Estate. In the centermost part of Darktown is the Petros estate, where the lords and ladies of the Petros family have ruled ever since Karmorden's founding. The luxorius manor is well guarded, although most are welcome in if they seek the family's audience.History
Karmorden's Founding (310 AKD). In the year 310 AKD, emerald filled caves in the southwestern Pass were discorvered by adventurers. The Petros family decided to move to the mines, hoping to start up a new business. Overtime they gathered more and more workers, and eventually founded the town of Karmoden. Soon after, the Petros were given charge of the land, and were recognized as nobility. Medeo's Reign (520 AKD). Centuries later, a mysterious sickness seemed to overtake the entire Petros family. Everyone died, along with some servants. The city mourned for weeks. And just as the city was about to chose a new family to rule over the town, Medeo appeared. He claimed to be Lord Ander Petros' brother, and had proof of it. Medeo has ruled ever since then, without much complaint from his citizens. The Earthquakes (620 AKD). In recent months, Karmorden has suffered a great number of earthquakes. A few structures have caved in, which has resulted in dozens of deaths. The cause of the earthquakes have not been identified yet, but many say a monster dwells below Darktown.General Information
