Moon monks Organization in Aewyn | World Anvil

Moon monks

Aewyns largest moon, Muun, is a symbol of the rhythmic cycle of life for the Moon Monks living on top of the mountain range called Moon trail Peaks.   Far away from other civilization, the moon monks are rather secluded and just goes about their daily lives on the mountains.   No one is born a Moon monk, neither is anyone forced to stay at the monasteries, but rather, you chose to dedicate your life to inner contemplation and worship of the moon goddess Muun. The monetary receive new members each year, all with their own reason to join the community - but it isn't expected for newcomers to stay forever. Muun might have a different thing in her mind for you, and you can pursue that as you wish.   Balance and maintaining a healthy cycle is what matters for the monks, and they have dedicated themselves to help the moon goddess Muun in bringing a form of balance to the world.

Moon temples

Carved out of the mountainsides, the temples have a dome-shaped "roof" where a carefully calculated hole is placed. This hole is meant for the moon, and it will shine through this hole once a month. Each month, when the moon is right, a gathering is held in the biggest moon temple, where everyone is sat in silence in the light of the moon. Then when the moon no longer shines through the hole, a feast is held in the temple.
The temples are hand-carved by the first monks. It took them many months, and the large temple took years to finish.
The inside is detailed with the phases of the moon and also decorated with Muun and her two smaller sisters Ebys and Aëtes. But other than the few decorations, the temples are rather simplistic, as to now distract from the real reason to be in temples.
