Dr. Finnigan Perry's Guide to Emergency Time Travel

Written by Dr. Finnigan Perry for the "Warriors of Light" to stumble upon in Pendel Codagio's tower. It describes what Pendel is trying to do and what they will have to do to stop it — and how.

• Your adversary has sent his automatons to specific moments in each character's past.
• The automatons have changed something about how the events were "supposed" to have happened.
• The goal of these changes was to make it so that a party member would never have traveled to Ashport.
• Finnigan has found a way to hijack the signal to send the party members back in time so that they can put history "back-on-track", or at least close enough to foil Pendel's plan.
• When you get there, you'll be inhabiting the body of someone who was either easily forgotten, relatively unimportant, or about to try basically the same thing you're going to do anyway.
• For wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey reasons, you won't be able to venture too far off-script while in the past.

Dr. Finnigan Perry's Guide to Emergency Time Travel

The Song of Time is like a river — and, like a river, it is hard to go in reverse and has a great amount of momentum. Many things in the past may seem “set in stone”. We simply do not have the ability to fight against the Song's rhythm here. The fact that we can manipulate anything at all is only due to the powers of the Orrery of the Wanderer and Dr. Pendel Codagio adding dissonance.
About the dissonance: Codagio can isolate parts of the Song of Time using his automatons. While I don't yet understand how this works, I know enough to be able to hijack the signal and manipulate parts of the Song within a large radius of the automaton.
How can you be in the future and the present and the past? Well, it's a bit tricky. In order for a being to exist in the past that had not before, the Song of Time would have to write parts for the new players (it's that momentum thing again). It will most likely opt to simply replace a character with your presence for the time being. Probably someone either easily forgotten, relatively unimportant to the Song’s motif, or close to performing your action anyway. I have used this to our advantage to insert you as close to a dissonance as possible.
There will be an event changed within the past. Something anomalous. Dr. Codagio has changed something to make it so you never travel to Ashport. Then you don't meet, and you don't eventually cause him all the problems that you cause him in the present. It is IMPERATIVE that we identify the anomalous event and stop the effects of it from impacting the person targeted by the dissonance.
“You”, of course, will never know. You can't interact with, or even properly perceive, “yourself” in the past. Another one of those “set in stone” things. It is VERY IMPORTANT to note that, if the Song of Time pushes back against being manipulated, you must not force it! You don't want to know what happens if you cause parts of the Song of Time to be hastily rewritten — or even become out of tune!
