Personal history
Ulysses received a classical education in Ilikaos as a youth before joining the Imperial Legions as a tribute with Quintus. The two became fast friends, and helped each other rise through the ranks. Quintus would eventually retire from the Legions to go into governance, and Ulysses would be chosen to be the commander of the 13th legion by Quintus years later. Not only is he a competent leader, Ulysses is also loyal to house Di'Aurix, making him a valuable political ally for the family.
Ulysses' family life is a troubled one. Though his first son, Romeo, was an intelligent, motivated, young man, his second child was born a cursed one, named Corinna by her mother. Her birth was difficult for the mother, who died a few days after birth due to an internal infection. Though it was customary for the Solari to kill cursed children in birth, Ulysses' wife made him swear an oath to spare the child, which he had kept to this day, despite the damage it brought to his household.
His son, Romeo, died in an accident while riding his horse in the countryside shortly after his 20th birthday. This caused great distress for Ulysses. Worried, with good cause, that he cannot have Corinna inherit the leadership of the house, as the Ecclesiarchy would not accept it, he chose to adopt his only bastard son with an elven slave, Cato.
