Author's Notes

We've begun! World Ember 2020 is upon us and I decided to kick it off with a little bit of core world-building so that I could get it out of the way right upfront. Took me a bit to get out, but this article managed to hit nearly 2000 words and I'm happy with that for my first day! Let me know what you think and if there's a bit in here you want to know more about.   Oh yeah. And I remembered my style after the mess that was the Alliance Challenge. All articles should be updated to include drop caps, related articles, and more!

Really like how you set up a potential trial moral quandry right off the bat with that opening quote. It lets us know there are deeper things to consider here as we move into the article proper.       Oooo resonex wars. I like the idea behind the resonex, something so powerful it has to be regulated to near extinction. Very nice. It makes me wonder all kinds of things. Like how on earth could any one win a war with them. I must know more about these wars and how they are monitored and handled. They are soooooo OP and I love it. This would make a 1st degree resonex the power ceiling of the system I think, right?   I noticed a minor error.   "Of all of the know Resonex, while still Resonators they" I think it's meant to be known.   Well done my friend. It was worth the wait. I definitely wanna see some of the ways the core mix and synergize. Till next time!

Want to know another fun moral quandry that ties up nicely with how to win a war against a Resonex? The Resonex Monitoring Core isn't quite the best organization, known distinctly for having intentionally turned their most powerful Resonator into a Resonex in order to deal with the third Resonex War. To be clear, the fourth Resonex built an army of lower degree Resonex and that army rose after the fall of the fourth Resonex. Due to its size, no number of Resonators were able to stand against it, falling quickly. However, at just about the 2 month mark, the Resonex Monitoring Core made the decision to use a Resonex to wipe out the army. They mostly did so successfully, the 12 years of fall out persisted as there was enough of the army left in hiding to stage several uprisings. It's a pretty interesting time called the Dark Ages of Aesontis. The Resonex Army was the reason for the implementation of the degree system as, following the outlawing of Resonex, only the most powerful and ambitious Resonators would even dare to become Resonex because they didn't want to face down armies of the most powerful people in the world.   It's not mentioned in this article, but the Resonex Monitoring Core has a central committee of figures responsible for recruiting the most powerful Resonators to be in the backlogs should a Resonex rise. Because of this, it would take a Resonex on a ridiculously high level to not fall to the army. On their own, however, Resonex can easily deal with armies of Class 2 to low Class 1 Resonators. It's possible that a Resonex may be powerful enough to stand against ever single Class 1 Resonator, however, they wouldn't be able to do so easily.   As for the First Degree Resonex being the ceiling of the power system, technically yes. However, there is a range as the abstract "volume" of Resonance that Resonex control can make them more or less powerful. And, in the case of a character who I'd rather not spoil for you, they are as powerful as Resonex as a Vibril and, upon becoming a Resonex or even a regular Resonator to where they have control over all of their Resonance, would be able to promptly wipe out nations.   Yeah... My magic system is a bit broken. But you know, that my favorite part about fantasy. Broken magic systems with characters capable of completely destroying everything.   Thanks for the catch, that should be fixed now!   Glad it was enjoyable, and, hopefully, my unorganized ramblings about Resonex also provide a little bit of entertainment for you.

I'm really curious as to what changed for Eritís Meseti that in six years he went from being unsure about Resonex to being a second degree Resonex. Intriguing. I like the amazing power that you can get as a Resonex, but it's really easy for it to go wrong and cut off your ability to do magic at all. I think that balances it out.

Well. Eri didn't really have something major change, perse. She was already curious as it was curiosity that brought the trio together in the first place. However, if I recall, it was in 3699 that Chaén took the step and illegally became a Resonex. Already torn between both sides, Eri's relationship with Podosía fell apart and she wound up leaving. Officially, it was to hunt for a Resonator to fill Podosía's needs, but really it was because she had broken up with Podosía and needed her space. That shift is what allowed Eri to begin to look more into it. There's also technically one more secret to her change of mind, but that's a secret.   I'm glad that a touch of balance is comforting in my world-shattering magic system. :)   Thanks for the comment!

Sorry for misgendering her - oops! Thanks, that sounds really interesting - I can see why the shift happened.
