Ruined City of Archaia

When the party arrives in Alda via their new airship, they land in the central district of the capital city Archaia. Most of what they see is ruined buildings with overgrowth. However, the party is still in shock to see buildings and technology that far surpasses anything they’ve seen before (other than in the pocket dimension). After landing they must travel through the city until they reach the Science & Research Facility. The city portion will have the party running through streets and passing through fallen buildings in their attempt to get close to the Facility.

History

Archaia was was a thriving metropolis, this pinnacle of science and technology. During its peak, the city was home to millions of people living in high rise complexes, flying around the city in flying vehicles and cars. Every technology under the sun was in use from high tech computer systems to biometric currency, to holographic communications. High speed monorail systems connected throughout the city and across the continent. At one time there were even talks of starting a space exploration program, but it never quite got off the ground (bad pun). All of this technology was powered by a single infinite source: the Arvalis. The Keeper at the time, Grand Keeper Salamar, was an inventor and futurist, hoping that by use of the Arvalis, he could bestow the lavish gift of innovation upon Alda. Keeping to the Law of Separation set up by the previous Keeper, Salamar kept everything the Aldar discovered and invented completely hidden and separate from the rest of the world. However, after Ghallus inherited the Arvalis, he began to impose certain laws upon the people that restricted their innovation and use of the Arvalis, therefore an uprising formed against him and sought to kill him. This led to the destruction of Alda and all they had made. Today, Archaia is in a perpetual state of ruin and decay. Much of the city has been lost to overgrowth, however, there are some central areas of the city that remain somewhat intact, such as the Science & Research Facility, as well as the Ancient Temple of Korazel. Other areas within and surrounding the central district of Archaia are largely traversable and many building still stand strongly. Its architecture is like that of a futuristic culture, like something you would see in I Robot, Minority Report, or Total Recall.
