Antynyx Organization in Aerd | World Anvil

Antynyx

A young and powerful country, Antynyx was built on the corpse of Io the Everwyrm. One thousand years ago, it was bested in the Skybreaker Wars, having faced near total defeat after the obliteration of its navy with the Hexblitz. Beaten in a war and humiliated with the exile of its king and heavy sanctions, Antynyx has gone through a millenia long identity crisis. It is currently ruled by a progressive republic, but peace is threatened once again; a fringe political group called The Chromatic Brotherhood waits in the wings, slowly accumulating power in the name of Tiamat.

History

In many ways, the history of Antynyx is the history of modern Aerd. During The Godslaughter Wars, the squabbling of the gods had become so petty and the carnage wreaked by their mortals armies was so widespread, Io the Everwyrm deemed it necessary to destroy the world (with all of the gods and mortals with it) and reshape it once more. As Io appeared from the upper planes, however, he was struck by an ancient Asimati artifact, the Tanri Agazhi or "God-Killer". Io was shorn in three pieces and fell into the sea. So large was Io that his corpse breached the surface even as he laid on the sea floor. His body, it is said, became Antynyx, and the blood he spilled became the first Dragonborn. From his body came the Draconic Progeny: Bahamut, Null, and Tiamat. Soon after their birth, Null fled into the Astral Sea, and Bahamut and Tiamat fought for supremacy. Bahamut bested his sister and cast her into hell. He then took his place as King of Gods. He banished all gods from visiting the Material Plane any more, leaving the mortals to rebuild their plane in the wake of ultimate destruction.
The Dragonborn made a home on the rocky, volcanic remains of Io. They named their land Antynyx, meaning "The Land of the King" in Old Draconic. While all staunchly proud of their divine heritage, rivalries quickly developed between the subspecies of Dragonborn. Tribes established loose territories, mostly defined by scale color and quality. There would be no peace on Antynyx for millennia, until a member of the Greenscales, Imtus Narghull, initiated a political movement towards unification. Knowing that the Metallics would never agree to accept a Chromatic son of Tiamat as their leader, he formed an uneasy alliance with a group of Goldscales led by Uancak Palasar. Under Narghull's tutelage, Palasar garnered clout with the Northern tribes, forming a Metallic Coalition. As planned, the Greenscales then pledged fealty to Palasar, who gave himself the title "Tsaros".   Incensed by the Green Betrayal, the remaining Chromatic Tribes banded together to defend themselves from the Metallic invaders. One by one, however, the tribes were defeated and assimilated. After a grueling military campaign, Narghull had his dream of a unified Antynyx under Tsaros Uancak. His machinations came at a price, however. Mistrust of the Greenscales spread throughout the Chromatic community, and after just a year of serving as Steward of the fledgling nation, Narghull was assassinated by his fellow Chromatics.
Despite, its tumultuous beginning, Antynyx became a powerhouse nation over the course of centuries. With a powerful standing army, a competent imperial navy, and arguably the most advance siege weaponry in Aerd, the Antynyxian military became feared throughout the nations. After several small campaigns to test its might, Antynyx launched a full scale effort to retake the Wyrmsheart Isles, which were that time contested between Antynyx, Capellia, and Áit Scáth. The resulting conflict ushered in the Skybreaker Wars, which ended in the total collapse of the Antynyxian military in the wake of the Hexblitz.   After the Skybreaker Wars, things became bleak on Antynyx. The Tsaros was exile, the nation was forced to institute a parliamentary system headed by a Proedros, they were banned from having a standing military, and harsh sanctions were set upon them by the other Great Nations. Despite the hardships, Antynyx progressed significantly in the ways of civil rights and technology. Under the parliamentary system, emigration to Antynyx increased, and the population became much more diverse.   These changes are not welcomed by all. The Chromatic Brotherhood, a right wing group with goal of reestablishing Dragonborn dominance, has arisen in Antynyx, vying for political power.

Military

The Antynyxian military was once feared but is now considered toothless by many. Due to its destruction in the Skybreaker Wars and the international sanctions against rebuilding a standing army, most of the other nations believe that there is little military might to speak of in Antynyx. However, the prominence of private militia development at the behest of the Chromatic Brotherhood has gone unnoticed, meaning that armed paramilitary forces outnumber actual soldiers 2 to 1. Further, these militiamen have reinstated the Antynixian traditions of building siege weapons. The industrial revolution that was taken over the island over the last 1000 years has expedited the private war effort, leading to many new fangled instruments of war.

Agriculture & Industry

Traditionally farmers and miners, Antynyx has seen a huge increase in mechanical industry in the years since the Skybreaker Wars. Aided by influx of technology from emigrants from other nations as well as the inherent power of the islands volcanoes, Antynyx's industrial revolution has rivaled even that of Gwerin. Antynyx also homes some of the world's greatest smiths and metallurgists.
