Introduction

One person's junk is another's treasure. This article describes new adventuring gear items and how you can craft them during your travels. A table containing all possible items you may craft can be found below. Refer to the D&D players handbook for all adventuring gear items that aren’t included in the table.

Adventuring Gear Crafting

General Crafting Rules

Each item listed in the table above has its own crafting recipe. These recipes consist of varying combinations of red, green, and blue materials. See the Material Gathering sheet for more information on material types. You may craft an item from a recipe you know during short or long rests, or during any other down time. Crafting more than two items during a long rest will prevent you from gaining the benefits from it.

Who Can Craft

Any player with proficiency in metallurgy or craftsman’s tools may craft adventuring gear. Crafting can be done by using their own tools if they have them or by using tools from a smith's guild house. Players can also have items crafted by NPC smiths.

Learning Crafting recipes

Learning new recipes can be accomplished in a few ways. Firstly, you may learn a new recipe by experimentation. During short or long rests, you may expend 8 materials of any kind and roll on the Adventuring Gear table. If you don’t know the recipe of the item you rolled, you learn it and gain one of that item. Otherwise, you gain nothing.

Another way to learn a new recipe is by reverse engineering an item you found. During a short or long rest, you may disassemble an item in your inventory to figure out how to make it. You must make an wisdom saving throw. See the table below for results.

Lastly, you may discover written recipes during your adventures or find them in a merchant’s shop. Upon reading those written recipes you learn how to make the corresponding item.
