Gedone

Regional capital in the eastern Kingdom of Andor. It is ruled by the High House of Margrove and is the current seat for King Garrick II, ruler of the Kingdom.

History

Gedone was founded over a hundred years ago by traders looking to establish an outpost in the eastern foothills near the Endless Sea. The city was named after the first ruler, Lord Gedone Margrove, who established the High House of Margrove as the ruling family. The city quickly flourished due to its strategic location at the crossroads of several major trade routes. Merchants from all over the realm flocked to Gedone, bringing with them exotic goods and diverse cultures. As the city grew, so did the power of the House of Margrove. The family used their wealth and influence to expand their holdings, constructing grand castles and mansions throughout the city. Gedone has become infamous for its political machinations between the noble houses.

As the centuries passed, the House of Margrove consolidated their power, slowly eliminating their rivals and consolidating their control over the city. Despite this, Gedone remained a hub of trade and commerce, attracting merchants and travelers from far and wide. The city has also seen a rise in crime and corruption, with several powerful criminal organizations vying for control of the city's lucrative black market. Gedone saw a rise in its power and economy after the War of the Lion, which saw Prince Garrick ascend the throne and move the seat of royal power away from Andor.

Geography

Gedone sits on the edge of the Crystal Sea and is a major trading hub for Aedrus. The city itself is divided into several sections: the Noble Quarter, the Commons, and the Shades. The Noble Quarter is comprised of Whitebridge, which contains the High Houses, and is separated from the Wreath, where the lower houses vie for status. In the center of Whitebridge stands the Sun Cathedral, the seat of power for the Church of Lightbringer. The Commons take up the majority of the city and contain the middle-class Gedonese, full of merchants, artisans, and workers. Those who can't afford residence here are relagated to the Shades, dangerous slums filled with ne'er-do-wells and assorted villainy. At the center of the city stands Castle Vanguard, an ambitious fortification that remains still in construction after a century. It is the home of the House of Margrove, as well as the current seat of the King of Andor, Garrick II.
