Cireth Organization in Aedeva | World Anvil

Cireth

As one of the few remaining true empires on Aedeva, the Sovereign Domain of Cireth has stood the test of time. Founded nearly 4000 years ago by Cir himself, most scholars agree that it is the power of Cir that has keep the empire together after all this time.

Religion

The modern Cirethian empire is ruled by Cir and his Faith of the Burning Crown, making this faith the dominant religion throughout the empire. Still, there is a surprising amount of religious freedom within Cireth. Servants of any of The Council of Stars - of which Cir is considered the head - are welcome throughout the empire.   Most minor religions are also welcome throughout Cireth, and many have temples in the empire's large cities. Cults are generally frowned upon by Cirethian rulers, but as long as the followers do not practice illusory or necromantic magic they are unlikely to be harassed by Cirethian law enforcement.   The only religions that are outright banned by the Cirethian clergy are those that venerate The Undying. As the ultimate nemeses of Cir and the leaders of Cir's opposition during the Twilight War, followers of The Undying are actively hunted by the Faith of the Burning Crown, particularly by the Lawbringers.

Politics

While the empire is still considered by most to be a cohesive whole, the truth of the matter is that each of the archduchies within the empire are effectively their own nation. Though they are technically allied under the banner of Cir, the archdukes and archduchesses of Cireth have frequent skirmishes along their borders as the rulers vie for political supremacy.   There is much scholarly debate over why Cir allows this internal warfare. Some believe he uses it to keep his soldiers ever ready for war. Others say it is Cir's way of punishing his people from falling away from the older Faith of the Healing Light. Still others claim that Cir is growing weak, no longer able to keep his empire in line - though it should be noted that they never make such claims while the sun is in the sky.

Magic

Magic is highly regulated within the Cirethian empire, especially arcane magic. Practitioners of divine or natural magic can cast with nearly complete freedom, so long as they do not cast spells that are necromantic or illusory in nature. Spells in both of these schools are completely illegal and punishable by death - a punishment that the Burning Crown is all too happy to enforce.   Arcane casters must be far more careful within Cireth. The Undying were masters of arcane magic and employed it to great effect against the forces of Cir throughout the Twilight War. For the first two millennia after the war, arcane magic as a whole was completely illegal. Eventually, however, for reasons that are lost to history, Cir declared the use of arcane magic to be legal once more, so long as the practitioner is registered with the Cirethian government.   Such registered magicians are given a license to practice arcane magic within the limitations presented by their region. Because the exact regulations vary widely from region to region, travel through Cireth can be quite dangerous for an arcane magician. Particularly since most infractions are punishable by death.

Demographics

Cireth as an empire covers about a third of the Aedevan continent. As such, its people are varied and diverse. Nearly any species of humanoid can be found somewhere within the empire, though some duchies have higher densities of certain species.
