Zyla the Lawguard (/zigh-lah/)

An Elysian and one of the original twelve creators

Profile and Followers

Zyla the Lawguard is the divine goddess of law, civilization, invention, and peace. She is often characterized as a dutiful and self-sacrificing goddess, one willing to fight for the right cause at all occasions. The Lawguard is always the first to shield all against chaos, and to strike at those who stir the peace.   Zyla is depicted as a tall strong woman. She is fair skinned and dons an incredible set of armor. Her shield is the most ornate part of her attire, acting as a wall keeping civilization safe from attackers and invaders.   The followers of the Lawguard are usually leaders and judges. Those who make it their personal mission to upkeep the dignity of civilization and wish to further advance its prosperity. While community leaders focus on the upkeep of their cities, other followers of Zyla instead take to the wilds. Their mission is to bring stability to the wildlands of the realm, and to dispose of monsters and entities that wish to see it all burn. Temples to the Lawguard can be found in the hearts of great cities scattered throughout the lands. Oftentimes these places double as courtrooms, homes to legislature, or the departments of law enforcement.

Popular Myths

Zimytus, commonly known as the first city on Aedar, is said to have been founded by the Lawguard. Plenty of theories surround how she manage to give birth to such a powerful city. The popular among them see the first city as an extension of her, and believe that once the goddess of civilization was born, so was Zimytus. This city now holds the largest temple to Zyla on the face of the world, and is a shining example of law and peace.

History With Other Deities

Zyla seemingly gets along with her fellow Elysians, all except for one, Maella the Wild Empress. They are both on the opposite sides of a massive conflict, one representing civilization and the other representing wilderness. Although they both hold fiercely onto their ideals, both hope to one day find the perfect balance between their domains, and finally reach peace between cities and the nature that surrounds them.

The Lawguard's worst enemy among the Chthonic has to be Guull the Ravager. Although Zyla and Maella don't see eye to eye, the Wild Empress' chaos has reasoning behind it. The chaos that the Ravager embodies lacks any rhyme or reason. Instead he seeks to simply burn all that civilization has built, city by city, house by house. Because of this, Zyla has become his mortal enemy, forever shielding the innocent people who hide behind city walls.     Another Chthonic whom Zyla despises is Thevaldin the Anathema. As the Deity of nightmares and panic, the Anathema is a huge danger to any civilization. While Guull can destroy a city from the outside, Thevaldin can destroy it from the inside. Deceit, paranoia, and madness could make even the most powerful of empires crumble. Luckily, since its imprisonment, the Anathema's influence has lessened greatly, but it is still a power many should be wary and on the lookout for.
Commandments of the Lawguard
  • Utilize the company and aid of others. The efforts of the individual often pale against the capabilities of community.

  • Strive to tame the wilds in the name of civilization, and defend the points of light and order against the chaos of darkness.

  • Uphold and revere the spirit of invention. Create new settlements, build where inspiration strikes, and expand the edicts of the Lawguard.
