Zamudra the Depth Queen (/zah-moo-drah/)

An Elysian and an ascended mortal

Profile and Followers

Zamudra the Depth Queen is the divine goddess of the sea, rage, purity, and medicine. She is often characterized as two sides of the same coin, one side being the peaceful healing waves that roll onto the land, and the other side being the vengeful fury that can collapse entire ships.   Zamudra is depicted as a beautiful pale woman, with ornate and decorated armor. She also often has silks running with her armor, which along with her hair, then become the very sea that we sail on.   The followers of the Depth Queen typically are aquatic creatures. Those who live in her domain throughout most of their lives often have at least a semblance of respect to the Depth Queen. Perhaps not specifically to Zamudra herself, but to the sea herself. Other worshippers of the Depth Queen include sailors praying for a safe trip across the ocean, druids whom are called to by the sea, or warriors who feel a connection to the crashing wrath of the waves. Zamudra's temples are usually found underwater, being upkept by the aquatic races that worship her. These temples are beautifully decorated and partially constructed of the underwater terrain nearby, such as coral reefs. Those who worship her on the land may find her temples scattered across the coastline, or on islands where the horizon is nothing but her domain.

Popular Myths

Zamudra the Depth Queen is said to have an interesting relationship to Maella the Wild Empress. A popular myth tells that the domains that belong to Zamudra, that being of the sea and purity, once belonged to Maella. Before Zamudra ascended to godhood, she was a devout cleric of Maella, who was especially attuned to the ocean. Many theorize that due to her devotion, dedication, and wisdom, Maella granted Zamudra divinity, and gave her the domain that she felt so connected with during life.

History With Other Deities

Whether Maella the Wild Empress granted Zamudra divinity or not, they are still very close allies. As the Deities of the land and of the sea, they have a lot in common, such as protecting nature and keeping a balance in both life and death. Acolytes of both goddesses work together often, as the ecosystem isn't isolated to one location, and so one must keep in mind all aspects of nature in order to truly understand its individual pieces.   The Depth Queen has an even closer relationship with Vomana the Nightfall. As her romantic partner, Vomana, and by extension the moon, means a lot to Zamudra. To the point that a lot of the followers of Zamudra still pay respect and pray to Vomana, despite her not being their patron Deity. One can always find at least a small symbol of the moon on the clothing of a high ranking Depth Queen acolyte.

Nyslene the Blood Scourge is the Chthonic Deity that Zamudra despises the most. Nyslene represents complete control and conquest, which goes in opposition to the pure freedom and rage of the sea. The Depth Queen seeks to protect both the peace of the shore and the rage of the typhoon, and she sees the Blood Scourge as the greatest threat to it all.
Commandments of the Depth Queen
  • There is no greater joy than that of freedom. The sea and the sky is for all, and thus should be shared.

  • The waters of the ocean can shift around any obstacle, or erode away all those who stand in its way. It is up to the individual to decide to adapt or to strike, wisdom shall be your guide.

  • Trust the signs of your surroundings. As one could predict when a storm approaches due to the waters, one can predict all through the portent and council of nature.
