Last Harvest

At the beginning of the month of Irdonum, cultures around the continent celebrate the last harvest of the year. This is typically an especially bountiful harvest as the weather is optimal for the greatest yields from their farms, and the livestock has had all summer to fatten and grow. Because of the expected surplus, there are cultures that hold a festival in honor of Irdona, praising her for a successful harvest season. It is also a time to welcome in newcomers to their respective village, town, or city and break bread. Most of the food being shared is that which is expected to spoil within a few days, so those in attendance can eat shame-free regardless of the expected winter months.   The celebration typically starts on the first of the month, and lasts for an entire week, culminating in the last feast. Every location celebrate the last feast a little differently, ranging from tables filling the town square where everyone is granted a seat, to the more private celebrations held in one's home. Households are encouraged to welcome in a new group to share their feast with, allowing them to stay the night in their home and introducing them to family and friends. It is a great way for people to get to know one another and feel accepted. Although most of Aecenyans rarely leave the place in which they were born, there are still a regular amount of transients. Adventurers especially are known for going from town to town in search of quests and treasure. The Last Harvest is an opportune time for adventurers to seek a friendly home and get to know the lay of the land.   Regarding the food itself, each feast typically features dishes that are heavily influenced by the normal crops and livestock from that region. However, it is also customary for those visiting to prepare a dish special to their homeland. This allows people to enjoy dishes they would normally never get to enjoy, and celebrate cultures from far away lands.
