Adynían Magic

The flow of magic is found throughout Adynía, usually in the form of arcane energy or crystals, more rarely as in liquid form. Every Adynían lifeform, from the simplest bacteria to sapient beings, is able to sense magic in its environment in much the same way as light, moisture and temperature. The ability to detect, manipulate or deflect different kinds of magic is an important factor in evolution in that world.
Many animals are able to use magic to some degree for various purposes. Certain species of fireflies, for example, use light magic to attract mates, while unicorns unleash wind magic to defend themselves from predators. Other creatures can deflect magic to certain degree, allowing them to feed in areas few others can or better withstand magical attacks.
Generally, special organs are used to absorb, store and release magic. In elves, dwarves, humans and orcs, the organ for storing magic is located in the brain while the ones that release magic are mostly found on the hands and feet, with those that absorb arcane energy being dispersed all over the body. Using up ones magic reserves can be dangerous, starting with a tingle that gradually becomes more painful as the body experiences fatigue, followed by losing consciousness for a while. Overloading the body with magic, such as when touching a charged magic crystal, causes a painful shock at the very least and can actually be fatal.
Using magic generally is limited to what one can touch however, as only a few creatures can use magic from a distance, and people require a magic staff to do so.
