Ignite/Smother
A basic spell-form of the Ruby Order, one often used as a gateway of sorts to teach and guide apprentices through their first efforts to connect with Doitean, the flow of Flame. Learning to manifest flame, or disperse it, the duality of fire, the duality of passion. This spell-form, even for those Ruby Magisters whom never choose to master it in practice, is a keystone spell-form in what it represents, providing a fundamental understanding of Doitean and the essence of this primordial force.
This spell-form, though one of the simplest amongst the arts of Pyromancy, is one of the most versatile and flexible due to its duality. When a magister is weaving this spell-form, they are doing so in the moment with a focus on one of two intentions, and this can manifest in how they behave during the incantation and manipulation. Ignition, the sudden release of energy given form, moving swiftly, speaking in tempo, with high energy and excitement. Or smothering, speaking with forced calmness, control, and quiet stern ferocity, barely moving, every motion limited but powerful and direct.
Effect
Basic Effects:
As a dual aspect spell-form, when weaving it a magister must be very clear of their intention from the beginning. These two intentions are Ignite and Smother, each of which is detailed below;
Ignite
If a magister is choosing to target a flame with this intention, that fire roars to life, increasing by 1 size category, and spreading as appropriate.
If a magister instead is targeting an inanimate combustible object of appropriate size, a medium size fire starts centered on that object. If that object is being worn or held by a creature of some kind, that creature rolls an Agility Defensive Test against your casting TN. Should they fail, they take 2d6 fire damage, and must drop/discard the object if able. If the object is not able to be immediately discarded, such as a belt, they gain the Ablaze condition. Should they succeed, they still take the initial damage, but somehow manage to ditch, discard, pat down, ram into the dirt, or otherwise smother the blaze as it ignites before it gets out of hand and truly takes off.
Smother
This has no effect on a non burning combustible object.
If a magister is targeting a flame or fire, it immediately is choked out, at least partially, immediately decreasing in size by 1 category. If it was already Tiny sized, such as a candle, it is immediately snuffed out entirely.
Side/Secondary Effects
Tier II Effects: You may now target large size fires and objects, and damage becomes 3d6 fire damage.
Tier III Effects: You may now target huge size fires and objects, and damage becomes 4d6 fire damage.
Tier III Effects: You may now target huge size fires and objects, and damage becomes 4d6 fire damage.
Manifestation
"Mikeal felt the slightest increase in temperature upon his hip, and scrambled as fast as his hands would move to try and unclip and pitch his powder horn away from him. However he was not fast enough. The slightest scent of woodsmoke, burning sulfur, the hiss of a flame coming to life, before the blast knocked him from his feet, his arms and torso entirely engulfed in flame"
