Black Street Butchers Organization in Adventures in Valerick TTRPG | World Anvil

Black Street Butchers

A group of assassins, known for their penchant to really skillfully send a message, to leave a body barely recognizable, even in public forums, without harming innocents.

The Black Street Butchers are perhaps the most feared criminal element in all of Suranth. Operating out of Geata-Iarainn, with numbers estimated to be between 40-70, they are known across the nation for their killings, which are always brutal, bloody and violent, yet always without collateral damage. Their skill is unmatched. The oddest part, however, is what always somehow happens days later, when the victims are to be buried. Somehow, some way, the skulls go missing, replaced with glass replicas, no matter how well guarded the body, no matter the morgue, no matter if the body is locked in a stone coffin. It is most mysterious.

The truth is they are a cult of slaughter, and the skulls go missing as an offering to Iracundia, the Ruined God of Wrath. Every one of the Butchers uses a special knife, known as a Skull-claimer, to finish their victims. This demonic weapon, gifted from the Void, insures by marking and then days later claiming and replacing the skull, that the soul of the deceased is dragged into the Void, to be an eternal bit of fodder for the nightmarish horrors that battle and fight in endless gladiatorial bloodbaths for the Wrathful one's favor and amusement in the Wartorn Arena. Until such a time as they no longer entertain it or its crowds, in which case their soul is consumed by the realm of slaughter, birthing the beginning of new horrors, or even terrors perhaps if they were tough and worthy foes. They seek to please their ruined god enough for him to bless one of them as a champion, to impart within them the blessing of Blood and Wrath, so they may undertake a true Night of Slaugher, becoming 'marked' for 'ascension'. Naturally all this will actually accomplish is to doom their mortal souls to the Wartorn Arena.
