The Laws of Adremesis
Magic is a very well known part of the world, though there are few who can master it. The magic comes from a fundamental law of Adremesis called the "Natural Flow".
Cosmology
First, the universe is born, the empty Void is all that exists.
The Void is a strangely horrifying place. Being there makes no sense, while simultaneously makes perfect sense. There is no surface to walk on, yet you can walk. No air to breathe, yet you can breathe. No gravity to pull you, yet you can fall. The Void is also incredibly unstable, the energies it embodies are always shifting and changing.
There are many Souls here, uncountably many, empty wisps that hold no body or semblance of life. They fly around in the nothingness, some collecting into larger souls, but no matter how hard they try, they have no body to imbue.
After millennia of nothing, the Almighty is created after countless empty souls coalesce into a divine being. The Almighty does not have a physical body and instead has a substitute made entirely of souls, so He is not bound by conventions of the body. The Almighty has immeasurable power, granted by the many billions of souls that had created him. He is unaffected by the unstable nature of the Void, but He cannot completely control it. A lack of a body also means the Almighty is able to split his existence into different life forms at will by separating his soul into its component parts.
The Almighty decides to begin constructing a home for the innumerable amount of souls still roaming the empty Void.
He starts to build a world, that He dubbed Adremesis.
The people of Adremesis believe something that is pretty much true; a higher power of unimaginable divinity created Adremesis. They know not of the validity of their beliefs, or the specifics of the process.
Principal Geography & Features
The whole world has variety. There are 5 continents, the Featherlands, the Sagely Grounds, Melveil Ice Plains, the Desolate Badlands and the Forbidden Lands.
The Featherlands and Sagely Grounds are generally pretty temperate.
For the Featherlands, think of sort of Scottish terrain. Very open, green, and hilly landscapes. A generally cool and wet climate, not too hot during the summers and not absolutely bone-chilling in winters. There are forests, but mainly only a single prominent one. The continent is split (not completely) by a large river.
The second continent is more European. Still quite green, but a lot warmer and more mountainous. The warmer weather has allowed for more trees so forests are far larger and more common. A large lake on the eastern side and a couple of rivers. Almost the entire west coast is taken up by a mountain range.
The Melveil Ice Plains (3rd) has always been very cold due to its northern presence, but (long story short) an angry Raxarian essentially caused an almost eternal winter. Not literally, but his effects against the climate of the island has caused ripples in the Natural Flow that made the Plains far, far colder than they should be. Think an Alaskan winter, but all the time. It's not as bad in the summer; less snow, more of just basically nothing but a very cold tundra.
The Desolate Badlands (4th), as the name implies, is quite desolate. It is a desert, the northern side is a lot more tropical however, since it is facing towards Melveil and thus gets a lot of cool winds and colder water currents. There is a small oasis somewhere deep in the desert and the island is flanked on both sides by mountain ranges. The only settlement here is Cavadrak, and they live in a sort of in-land cove surrounded by mountains in the east. They are a very religiously orientated village and are mostly disconnected from the rest of Adremesis.
Finally, the Forbidden Lands. Used to be a far more humid area, with much of the east being a great jungle, but the scourge of the Lord of Chaos centuries ago caused the much of the land to die. Eternally dark skies, very dry weather, and a far, far colder climate than before (but lacking snow) caused most of the island's life to perish. It is "forbidden" for it is said that a great curse thrives there, feeding off of the malice and suffering of the island.
It has gotten so bad in the eastern half (roughly where it all originated) that the soil has turned into more like black sand or ash. It does also hold a volcano in the mountains of its western corner, dubbed Mt. Líflátlæ.
