Ki Sector Organization in Adonis | World Anvil

Ki Sector

Through the endless sweep of fog and rain, only the tallest trees poke out from the clouds resting on their forests. Mossy rocks and whispering creeks spilt the lonesome cities, shadowed by the evergreens surrounding their every side. For creatures big and small, to get away from the bustling city life is something they only long for, unaware that their dream life is more attainable than they think. Despite its overwhelming size, and accessible location, the Ki sector is the least populated sector in Adonis, being home to merely three-hundred cities, towns, and villages. The Sector is best known for its luscious flora and fauna, with nearly fifteen thousand undiscovered species exclusive to the Kijion forests. Most of the sector remains unexplored, shielded by protection acts to save the forest, and the adventures who dare to enter the empty wilderness. The forests of Ki have resulted in over eight-hundred active missing cases, so that cottage daydream is best lived out at least half a day's walk from the nearest city.

Culture

Kinji is a vast sector, where the young and old alike can live out their days in peace and privacy. In great contrast to their neighbouring sectors, the creatures of the Ki Sector value tradition, tranquility, and independence more than anything else. The sector offers a wonderful get away from the bustle of Telio, or the booming nightlife of Adura. Hidden between the sky-high trees and jagged boulders sit quaint, quiet villages, where other creatures are a rare entity almost never seen. With the exception of Legther, most of Kinji’s villages never see tourists or visitors, leaving most of their forests unexplored and inhabited.
Most of Kinji’s culture is central around their belief in Abe, a six-armed centurian woman who hunts the forest for those who do not belong, and protecting those who do. Any newcomers or visitors in the Ki Sector must go through an extensive process to introduce and protect themselves from the “forest beast” through a ceremony called the Ekuba, which can only be performed once a season. Visitors are discouraged-even banned in some villages-from visiting without participating in the Ekuba, as it is believed that all those who are not introduced to Abe will be killed by her in the night. Many celebrations are held in Abe’s name throughout the year, the only nights where the Kinjion truly come alive. Much of the day to day in Kinji is influenced by the practices of the followers of Abe, but many creatures in the Ki Sector are without, or have different beliefs.
The Kinji sector is best known for their woodworkers, unsurprisingly so. But, before the establishment of the Nuzar sector, Kinji also sat at the top of the market for their mass-crop supply. Many residents of Kinji are able to produce their own crops from gardens left by their ancestors so many years ago. The Kinjion villages are filled with rooftop gardens and giant trees filled with crops year round, using ancient techniques in place of magic. True Kinjoin creature will never use magic in their life, just as their ancestors did-even if they have the power to do so. In the Kinji culture, it is strongly looked down upon to use magic for any means, even if it could save a life. The most controversial business in the Ki Sector, the Ravenlia Inn, uses magic to protect visitors who have not been through the Ekuba. Protestors and representatives of Abe can often be seen outside of the Inn.

History

To start with a clique, naturally, in the beginning, it was dark. Not the cracks in the closet door dark, but more the sleeping camps of a raging war kind of dark. Fukuo Kinji had lived in the country just up the coast from Adonis. She grew up with her parents in the early stages of an established, governed country, and knew only order, somewhat, and following. As she ventured further down the coast, however, she found the world outside of her society to be vast and chaotic; no one to lead, no one to fall. After making friends with another wanderer just like herself, she woke up one morning to find his blood and remains soiling her belongings. Fukuo knew that the creatures of Western Adonis, without a name at the time, needed order if they were to advance anytime soon.
She quickly rose to power in the ungoverned land; declaring herself the ruler, and challenging all who denied. Fukuo walked from village to village, convincing all she could that she was best for the future of their creatures. Some went along with it, others didn’t, but she only needed those few who did to create a strong alliance and intimidate all left behind. She had gathered almost ninety villages by the time another alliance from the east decided to attack. Her armies were strong and much larger than theirs; the battle was over in a matter of days, leaving the heads of the alliance bowing at her feet.
After the brief, but brutal war, she refused to be sprung up on again. Building within the biggest tree she could find, up rose Legther, what would be the capital of her country, Kinji. She had great dreams for her country; after establishing themselves, they would coincide with Mordikae, possibly merging as they were only a ship ride away. She had not travelled past the forests, but she sent many adventurers out to bring word of her ruling to others, expanding her kingdom by the day. With an expert team of cartographers, Fukuo mapped out where her borders would lie-almost the exact line Letherian mapped out later on. She ruled for years, and dreamt of big, better things everyday. Fukuo wanted the best for all under her wing, and would stop at nothing to get it for them. But, all her dreams came to an aggressive halt when word arrived from the south.
Another was rising to power, multiple others. They called themselves the Cohorts, with a child named Letherian at their helm. In waves of hundreds, prophets and ambassadors waddled from village to village, spreading word of “the God’s child.” A massive city was in construction, thousands of creatures moving in everyday; Fukuo wasn’t ready to watch her empire fall, even to a demi-god. Adonis was much too large to prepare for war with another empire on the other side of the country, all she could do was strengthen her borders and pray he came no closer.
Seasons flew by, with nothing else from the prophets of this so-called “leader.” Seasons turned to years, and soon Kinji had forgotten the mega-city in the south. Fukuo Kinji eventually passed away, turning her lead to her daughter, Gya. Despite her passing, the empire continued to grow, and only a year after Fukuo’s death, Gya fulfilled her mother’s lifelong wish and opened up conversation with Mordikae about merging as one.
With advancing technology on the portation front, Letherian heard word of this conversation within a few days; far from excited.

Demography and Population

The Kinji population is made up of five million sentient creatures, with most of their population residing in, or around, Legther. The average lifespan in Kinji is forty-six for an Orc, eight-hundred and four for an elf, sixty for a human, twenty-six for ocean types, nine-hundred and six for fresh-water types, and one-hundred and three for most other species, though that can vary.

Military

Before the Kinji guardship was introduced by Letherian Minvahla, the creature of Kinji relied on the Afrieh and the Ndum to keep the sector in order. The Afrieh were a specially trained group of individuals hired to blend in the day to day lives of Kinji, dealing with outbursts and criminals using silent, private, and nearly invisible tactics. The Afrieh's job was to eliminate the problems and issues that arose without interrupting the day of the Kinji creatures. Once an Afrieh member became recognizable to the village they were stationed in, they were either relocated to another village, or taken off of the Afrieh all together. But, without the Ndum, the Afrieh would not have known who to deal with. The Ndum were a species of small creatures, specially bred for this job. Their homes were in trees, where they would watch over their villages and rat out anyone who was causing a problem to the Afrieh. Commonly nicknamed the "nardums" or the "tails," criminals in Kinji were often easy to spot due to the lack of trees, or dying trees, around their homes. The Ndum's would also take care of the trees they inhabited, passing them down to their next of kin. The last known Ndum passed away in 17.Ne after the guardship took over the Afrieh, the reason for their extinction still remains unknown.

Foreign Relations

Kinji is known for upholding a strong alliance with Mordikae, the country just up the coast from Adonis. Back when Kinji had shut its borders down, Bonsu Kinji worked around the clock trying to separate the Sector from Adonis and join Mordikae instead. Letherian Minvahla shut the request down immediately, but allowed Bonsu to construct major portal systems to allow for major trade routes from Mordikae. It is rumoured that Mordikae and Kinji are still attempting the separation, but no official information has been released on the topic.

Education

The majority of Kinjion are very well educated. After her mother's passing, Gya flipped their society from the lowbrow, illiterate state they were stuck into a well-read, intelligent culture.

Divine Origins

Not much is known about where Abe comes from. The earliest mentioning of the "forest beast" dates back long before Fukuo Kinji was even born.
