Zachary Sanzieth

Guildrunner Zachary Bragirian Sanzieth (a.k.a. Zach, "Gear Boy," "Fearless Leader")

The half-Aoidean/half-Terreif Spellcaster and leader of Guild Fathmir.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

This loser has never passed a gym class in his entire life.

Body Features

Slightly pale skin that if he actually got some sun every once in a while would actually be pretty tan, a long, lanky body with equally as long fingers and feet, a big nose, extensive black tattoos, the signature Aoidean gill "scars," and spiky, short black hair.

Facial Features

Long, rectangular face, droppy grey eyes with bags under them, a long, big nose, thin lips, big, slightly pointed ears reminiscent of an Aoidean's, a goatee and an eternally scruffy 5 o'clock shadow.

Identifying Characteristics

Droopy eyes with heavy shadows underneath them, frizzy black, bedhair hair, and black Aoidean-style tattoos that he has that spread in a wing-like pattern from his black, down his arms and then stop at his hands.

Physical quirks

Left-handed, tends to pace a lot with a very long gait. Will get very animated if given enough coffee or someone mentions technology in his general vicinity. Uses his hands to speak, and has horrible posture as a whole where he usually tries to make himself seem smaller than he is. Tends to also bounce one of his legs when nervous, which is to say, is all the time.

Special abilities

Has your standard magickal abilities (ability to cast spells, use a Soul Weapon and what not) with a focus on healing, defense, transfiguration, conjuring, and teleportation. He also developed an elemental specialty which ended up being the Ventus Forte (AKA Wind elemental abilities much to his chagrin). This ability gives him control over wind such as creating minor whirlwinds, but also grants him better evasiveness, more effective teleportation, flight (usually can do some minor floating and can also control his rate of descent, but he has to use his Soul Weapon as a broomstick of sorts in order to actually fly), and shields made out of wind.

Also due to his Aoidean heritage, he can hit certain frequencies to temporarily stun enemies if he concentrates enough along with having perfect pitch, the ability to slightly mimic other people's voices, being able to "throw" his voice, and having the ability to withstand most sonic attacks. Though he usually uses what Aoidean abilities that he has to give a loud whistle to get his guildmates' attention if they're bickering too much.

Apparel & Accessories

A standard, long-sleeved white shirt with an old red ribbon tied in a simple knot, a faded blue, double-breasted vest with a bronze pocket watch sitting in one of its pockets, slightly poofy, dark grey pants that puff out over worn, brown boots, an old brown, leather belt that his tool kit is attached to along with some old gold-plated, family heirloom protection charms attached to chains. Also has some googles, small turquoise earring studes in each ear, black knitted fingerless gloves, and his Great Uncle's old brown long coat that has embellishments on the shoulders and a slightly bronze trim along with patches on the elbows and evidence of years of being mended.

Specialized Equipment

"Soul Weapon" that comes in the shape of what looks like a twisting wooden, natural-looking shepherd's staff that has a white ribbon tied at the base of the "hook" and metal rods that evoke the shape of gear prongs that protrude from the outer curve of the hook. He also carries various tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, pliers, etc. in a small leather apron tied to his belt, and some flash bombs that he created himself.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Zachary was born in the tiny village of Gearen near the border to Virva where a lot of Virvish immigrants and their descendants lived along with the highest concentration of Aoideans in the country. Zachary and his family didn't have much as he was growing up but the same could be said for the rest of village. When he was 9, his family had saved up enough money to go on a vacation to the capitol of Ordes where the 51st Annual Chronan Festival for the Advancement for Adirans was happening. There, Zachary got introduced to the wonders of technology and fell in love at first sight. Looking at all of these latest inventions, he thought that someday he'd go to the Royal Ordes Academy of Science and be a great inventor like his hero, Edwin Lates!   ...Too bad he ended up turning into a spellcaster. While his parents never had any magickal gifts, he had ancestors that did and lucky, lucky, lucky him ended up with the recessive genes. So now instead of being allowed to work with technology, he had to be trained in magick. While he didn't mind learning magick that much, it frustrated him constantly that he wasn't allowed to do what he loved. Not to mention, it's often frowned upon for spellcasters to take interest in non-magickal things. So with that came a lot of ridicule. The only person who encouraged his interest, was his Great Uncle Albert who was regarded to be just as crazy as Zachary was and it was inferred that it was where he inherited it from.   And it only got worse from there. Zachary as a young child also ended up proving to be a rather talented magician which attracted the attention of a rather illustrious school of magic: The Royal Chronan Academy of Magickal Advancements. He was offered a scholarship to the pride of his town and family who thought that going to such an exclusive place would finally get his head out of the clouds. The Royal Academy would clearly guarantee future success! ...If you were rich that is. Which Zachary was not. Let's just say that he did not fit in that well. Well, he barely fit in at all, since a lot of students and even faculty looked down upon him due to his "commoner" status along with his Aoidean heritage. The bullying was relentless and since he still never stopped fiddling with technology it got even worse. He barely had any friends and was mostly used as the school punching bag. And he wouldn't allow himself to go home because he would do anything not to disappoint his family, especially since his scholarship eventually ran out and his parents and older brother had to work overtime in order to afford to continue sending him there for the rest of his academic career.   But then at 15 a miracle happened! This dork actually got some friends in the form of a popular girl and boy! Things were finally looking up for the technophile, until he found out that they were only pretending to be his friend and viciously humiliated him in front of the entire student body. For the rest of his time at the academy he became incredibly withdrawn and stayed away from the other students until he could finally graduate and leave that wretched place. Afterwards he became apprenticed to a sage who ran a magickal library until he turned 24 and he tried to strike it out on his own. Bouncing from crappy apartment to crappy apartment in Ordes, until as luck would have it he was given ownership of a bookshop with a multi-roomed apartment above it! ...Unluckily it was his Great-Uncle Albert's own shop in Ordes that he willed to Zachary upon his death. Also even unluckier, after a couple of months, he found that he could barely keep it afloat. He had to find another way to keep it open and also not lose the apartment upstairs. Without any other choice and desperate to make rent, he struggled to find a way to achieve this. Until one day 3 certain individuals came crashing into his life. A runaway Aoidean diva by the name of Ofelia Carmein, a disgraced Fauranosian squire by the name of Thomas Duncansson, and a wanted Sabrynagian thief by the name of Wilton Drogo who wasn't only running from just the police. None of these three had any place to go, so he decided to let them stay. Then when the rent came due, he and his new associates made a desperate choice and decided to create a guild, and thus Guild Fathmir was born.   It could have worked if they just didn't suck so much. Oh dear Xephire did they suck so much. For a guild whose name is supposed to mean "lucky" they sure were one of the unluckiest. It didn't help that Ofelia, Thomas and Wilton (well Ofelia and Thomas vs. Wilton) constantly bickered while Zachary honestly just wanted to lie face down in a puddle. They were considered a "D-Rank" guild until they accepted a mission that changed everything...

Education

  • Gearen Village School: tiny schoolhouse located in his home town that caters to pre-school and elementary-aged children. Usually starts a lot later around 10-11 AM due to a lot of students having to help out with their family's farms
  • The Royal Chronan Academy of Magickal Advancement: Extremely exclusive magick academy that has sections for both middle and high school-age students and originally was started as a public works project centuries ago by the monarch at the time. It's one of the crown jewels of education that Chron offers other than the Royal Chronan Academy of Scientific and Technological Advancement and usually has a waiting list that can be up to 10 years long. It also tends to allows only a couple of specially-chosen scholarship students in a year. Magickal Nobility and prominent citizens alike send their children there and a glorious future is almost always guaranteed...well if you're rich enough.

Employment

Hydestower Historical Library 1st Assistant Apprentice

Hydeston, Chron // 2578-2582 DEX: {18-22 years old}
Unpaid Internship in all but name. Was tasked with helping to organize and preserve important historical, magickal documents and books along with basically being the unofficial handyman/boilerman. He had to compete with four other Assistant Apprentices in order to become the full-fledged Master Apprentice who would then inherit the pretegious caretaker-ship of the library. Zachary was first in-line to get this position (hence the 1st Assistant title) and was repeatedly told by the current Master Librarian that he was a guarantee to get it!

...until the Librarian found out that the 4th Assistant Apprentice was the son of a prominent, rich family and immediately gave the position to him, much to Zachary's (and the other Assistant Apprentices of course's) dismay. Especially since it meant that he lost his place of residence, since while they didn't receive any pay (other than maybe like a small stipend for food), they did have a semi-decent place to stay.

Mercade Grocers & Sons General Store Clerk (& stockboy/handyman/boilerman/janitor)

Hydeston, Chron // 2583-2583 DEX: {23 years old}
The original job description was to just run the cash register in this general store, but Zachary ended up doing everything instead. He ended up only working 5 months for the lazy, greedy owners (the eponymous Robert Mercade and his two sons) who fired him after he asked if he could have a day off to go back to his hometown for the holiday of Hiemtival, an important winter holiday that people used to celebrate the winter season, and spend time with their loved ones.

Mylkwood Square Cinema Projectionist & Cafe Tremont Barista

Hydeston, Chron // 2584-2585 DEX: {24-26 years old}
Worked as a projectionist in the local cinema for two years and was often tasked with fixing the projector along with selling snacks to the patrons. At the same time in order to make ends meet, he also worked as a barista at a small cafe located in a bakery a bit further down the street. Like he can't cook at all, but hey he can at least make a mean cup of coffee. Ended up getting fired from both jobs around the same time after some stingy customers made some false complaints about him either not being nice enough to them or not being fast enough.

Owner and Proprietor of BlackHearst Books & Guildrunner (Registration: #ASTRQZ-*1 of Local Guild #ASTRQZ aka Guild Fathmir)

Ordes, Chron // 2586 DEX - Present {27 years old - }
After his beloved Great-Uncle died, Zachary found himself the new owner of his used book shop, the BlackHearst which was smack-dab in Chron's capitol city. While Zachary was in mourning for a great period, it ended up becoming a good thing for him because Great-Uncle Albert's last act of kindness also included a modestly sized apartment upstairs which solved Zachary's living situation. Well...until the mortgage came due that is. It seemed that unfortunately, Zachary didn't just inherit his Great-Uncle's shop but also his debts and was struggling to keep the shop open along with affording food. At his most desperate hour, he decided to do something that he never thought that he'd ever do. Join a Guild.

I mean he tried joining a guild at first but nobody would take a greenhorn like him, so he had to do the next best thing: start a Guild.

Starting one was easy enough, the only problem was that in order to become official he needed actual guild members. And who better than the 3 random strangers that he took in from the kindness of his heart? So after coming to a unanimous agreement (because honestly they all need the money too), Guild Fathmir was born.

The world was their oyster and they only had themselves to blame.

Accomplishments & Achievements

  • 1st Prize in the Gearen Village 1st Annual Tinkerer's Fair Gearen Village, Chron // 2569 DEX {10 years old} (later revoked after it was discovered that he was a spellcaster)

  • Was on the honour roll almost every single semester at The Royal Chronan Academy of Magickal Advancements (Had to be in order to keep up his scholarship as long as possible)

  • Achieved the prestigious 1st Assistant Apprentice title for the Hydeston Historical Library (was going to achieve the Master Apprentice title but lost it to nepotism)

  • Somehow managed to rescue Her Highness, Princess Lillianna de Crowley of Chron, with the rest of his guild in one of their first actual successful missions.

Failures & Embarrassments

  • Getting his trophy for winning 1st Prize in the Gearen Village 1st Annual Tinkerer's Fair revoked after he was found out to be a spellcaster from his magickal abilities deciding to literally show up right at the moment of him receiving the reward

  • Finding out that instead of developing a "cool" elemental specialty like say Fire or Metal, he got the "wimpy" and overly defense-focused Wind ability.

  • Almost setting the school on fire after a test-run of a new invention went extremely wrong which only gave students more excuses to ostracize him.

  • Getting viciously humiliated by people that he thought were his friends in school.

  • Almost doing something that he would grow to regret that he once legitimately almost went through with.

  • Losing the Hydeston Historical Librarian Master Apprentice position to some dumb, useless rich boy whose parents knew the Caretaker after working so hard.

  • Getting fired from three jobs. Like yes, all three of them sucked, but he still took it personally and as a blow to his already low as hell self-esteem.

  • Finding out that his Great Uncle innocently passed his debt to him and that if he wanted to keep a roof over his head, he had to find a solution fast.

  • All of those embarrassing failed missions his guild has had.

  • Having to apologize on behalf of Wilton for all of the dumb, perverted things that he says.

Mental Trauma

Often tries to put on a happy face but greatly suffers from depression, anxiety, and PTSD due to his time at the Royal Academy from all of the bullying and public humiliation he faced. It got so bad that he almost did something bad that he still struggles with to this very day.

Intellectual Characteristics

Is extremely logical and book smart, though due to his Aoidean heritage he usually well learn things more rhythmically. Tends to hum a made-up tune to help him remember facts and information.

Morality & Philosophy

A very kind-hearted pacifist that no matter what, still tries to believe in the good of people, even though he's been proven wrong before. He also believes that most people deserve second chances. However, even he has his limits...

Taboos

Has normal taboos with an extra emphasis on "thou shall not kill" and "thou shall not harm innocents."

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

To keep a roof over his head and more importantly, his Great Uncle's shop in business.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Pretty good with machinery and fixing them, along with just being good with his hands in general. Whether it be metalworking, leatherworking, or woodworking. Is also pretty decent at inventing/making his own things, even if some of them have a tendency to (literally) blow up in his face. Zachary is also very studious, book smart (both academically and magickally), and logical. Not to mention, he's surprisingly good with plants. Well he better be considering his parents are farmers. He as well is good at playing not only the fiddle, but the violin, and the piano as well as having a pretty decent voice.

However, he's rather inept with social interactions, has the worst stamina out of the entire guild, can't cook to save his life, and can get distracted easily.

Likes & Dislikes

Likes: Coffee, cinnamon muffins, reading, The Larkian Chronicles book series (it's his absolute favorite), tinkering with machinery, when said machinery doesn't miraculously blow up in his face, when everyone in his guild isn't fighting with one another, when Wilton actually listens to him for once, playing the fiddle, coffee buns, cinnamon apples, roast cockatrice, onegg cups (baked onion and egg dish), Edwin Lates (childhood hero), staying up late, and sleeping late.

Dislikes: "Polluted" Coffee (coffee with sugar and milk), when his coffee gets cold, sweet buns, milk, jam, and peanut butter, people not listening to him (especially Wilton), people that he loves getting hurt, violence, people telling him that as a spellcaster he shouldn't mess around with technology and that he's a disgrace to his "kind" for doing so, people looking down on him for his "country bumpkin" origins, and when his guild doesn't get along with each other.

Virtues & Personality perks

Patient, compassionate, hard-working, inventive and loyal.

Vices & Personality flaws

Distracted easily, weak-willed, naive, gets caught up too easily in projects, tends to be a doormat, and is obsessed with coffee, novels, inventing, science, and sleeping.

Personality Quirks

Tends to avert his eyes when speaking with anyone especially when he's really nervous, tends to also scratch his head when doing this as well as pace around the room a lot. Has a tendency to also absentmindedly crack his knuckles too and will slip into Garrish and Lychron during the rare times he's actually extremely angry. Will also almost always either be seen with a book, a tiny piece of machinery that he's trying to fix, or a cup of coffee.

Hygiene

His books, machinery parts, blueprints and his Great Uncle's bookshop are meticulously organized. But for the rest, everything is a total and complete mess. And while he does try to take a shower everyday, if he gets too caught up in a project for a couple of days, Wilton, Thomas and Ofelia will physically drag him into the bathroom. Also rarely brushes his hair, tends to rarely shave, and seems to have a permanent 5 o'clock shadow.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Is also affiliated with The Royal Academy of Magickal Advancement (unwillingly), is registered as a Scholar Mage-Class under the Chronan Spellcaster Registration Act of 2048, and is a(n annonymous) member of the Cogswatch Wordsmiths Journal in his spare time.

Family Ties

  • Cora Sanzieth (mother)
  • Thatch Sanzieth (father)
  • Vance Sanzieth (brother)
  • Ada DeFleur-Sanzieth (sister-in-law)
  • Emma Sanzieth (niece)
  • Albert Sanzieth (deceased great uncle)

Religious Views

Likes to believe that a Divine Being like Mathairhani, who looks over all life on the planet exists but considering what he's been through it's caused him some doubts. Would probably be considered more agnostic than anything.

Social Aptitude

Socially awkward and shy as hell. Tends to freeze when forced to speak in front of large crowds and hates attracting attention to himself.

Mannerisms

When speaking to another, he tends to avert his eyes, and looks a little hunched over as he tries to unconsciously withdraw into himself posture-wise. Tends to also use his hands a lot when speaking which is honestly a common trait of natives to the village he grew up in, and also pauses with a lot of "uhs" and "ums."

Hobbies & Pets

Pets: Passepartout is his dog and Nemo is his aquafir, which is a type of aquatic fox-type creature with cat-like features that Aoideans are known for raising.

Hobbies: Fiddling with technology, restoring old machinery, reading, writing stories (will refuse to admit to this and is embarrassed at all of his self-indulgent work. He's also secretly part of the same amateur fiction magazine circle that Ofelia is part of, known as the Cogswatch Wordsmith Journal), sleeping, making coffee (he finds that he rather likes it when some pretentious jerkwad isn't yelling at him to make it faster), playing the fiddle, and keeping some of his plants alive.

Speech

Very soft-spoken tenor voice with a slight lyrical, Virvish accent and often sounds unsure of what he's even saying. Again, he tends to pause his conversations with "uhs" and "ums." Though if you get him nervous enough his speech will get faster, higher and with 70% more sputtering. Also as mentioned before, during the rare times he actually swears it's usually in Garrish and is basically the result of his poor, country boy background coming through.

History

Have known each other since Ofelia (along with Wilton and Thomas) arrived on Zachary's doorstep over a year ago. They have a sibling-type relationship with Zachary acting like a big brother figure of sorts towards her.

Nicknames & Petnames

Ofelia calls him "Zach" or will say "Sanzieth" if she's cross with him.

Zachary calls her "'Felia" and on rare occasions, "Fi."

Relationship Reasoning

They're essentially roommate/work friends through the magic of Virvish-Aoidean solidarity.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

They both have Virvish and Aoidean ancestery that they've bonded over. They're kind of glad that they both have someone to talk about their culture with. They also both like reading and writing, and talking about their favorite novels and plays together.

Shared Secrets

Ofelia told Zachary about her childhood after he figured out that she wasn't an ordinary Aoidean "peasant" girl looking for adventure.

History

First bumped into each other when Wilton was running from the local police, and taking pity on him, Zachary covered for him and let him hide in his apartment.

Zachary has regretted it ever since.

Nicknames & Petnames

Wilton calls Zachary "Gear Boy" and "Fearless Leader"

However Zachary mostly calls him, "wILTON NO"

Relationship Reasoning

They're basically work friends/roommates with the added bonus with being the unwitting "Team Mom" and "Team Dad" to Thomas as well as the younger members that later join their guild.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

They both like working with their hands and messing with machinery and after Wilton is able to score a new autocycle (motorcyle), he and Zach take turns hanging out and working on it.

Shared Secrets

Wilton later tells Zachary the true reason why he came to Chron...

Shared Acquaintances

Ofelia Alyss Rosetta Carmein and Thomas Duncansson.

Legal Status

Legally emloyer and employee

Wealth & Financial state

Poor as all hell. Was poor as a child and then continued to be extremely poor up until his current age. Things are starting to look up a bit more however since his guild has saved the princess and they're bringing in a lot more revenue now.
