The Naeron Hammerstrikers. There are few soldiers in the world who can match them. An infantry regiment, they can nevertheless hold their own, even against cavalry and archers.
Chosen from amongst the toughest, largest men, broad shouldered, the Hammerstriker Regiment of the Naeron Royal Army has been a staple of Naeron's military might for centuries. Their training is brutal, but necessary. Carrying large war hammers, full plate armour and large rectangular, metal battle shields, they are neither light nor fast. Each man must be able to support the weight of their equipment for long miles of marching and long hours of battle. Years of training hardens their body and steels their mind. Their discipline is legendary amongst military commanders. Hardship, exhaustion, injuries... they are capable of going on regardless.
While they can be outrun in skirmishes or by cavalry, they are like a hammer striking an anvil on the battlefield, amidst the slow man-to-man combat. Anyone caught in between will be crushed. Tall and broad, the sheer force of their shield wall pushing against the opposing line creates an unstoppable force. You either move, or you will get trampled and struck down."The ground shook. We could hear them marching, we could hear their chant. Several of our men fled before we even caught sight of them. Those who stayed were trembling. They were used to great effect by the Naeron commanders during the Interregional Wars. In many battles they provided the tipping point, routing the enemy and bringing victory to Naeron.
