Lake Cathar

"I can't see why they have such a close connection to that damn puddle of water. Whenever i order them here, it takes them hours to get to my domain. It infuriates me! I should destroy it, I believe. Have my fumes bring it to a boiling bog, just like it's surroundings. We'll see if they enjoy their towers and ruined homes at that point!"
- Vorbile, the Desecrator , to Malus, the Charred Colossus.
Lake Cathar is one of the few regions on Vorbile's Island that still holds some resemblance of the former beauty it once held. It is a glacial lake with surrounding hills and forests having been reduced to marshlands, along with elven settlements that were once found nearby. Vorbile's meddling has reduced the size of the island to be at what he seems fit. No longer deep within what was once considered the inner regions of the land, Cathar is now a mere kilometer from the coast, which is filled with the remains of villages, now washed upon the shore. Those arriving to the island for the first time may mistake them as jagged spikes, but it is just a remnant of what was once a propserous group of homes. The lake itself though is shallow, reaching depths of 20 meters at most. A mist can be often found from the shorelines, only going as far as the eye can see, not much further. It's been deduced that this is hallucinatory, the mist itself is intangible, and can be seen through by those that have experience with illusions. When the land was more prosperous, large reptillians used this to their advantage, skulking beneath the waters to wait for those who tried to see through the mist. This made them hunted by illusion masters, especially by a cult of illusionists who had once lived in a nearby tower. This tower is now abandoned, but often used by one of Vorbile's servants whenever he breaks free of his binding curse, being the nobleman Sir Arondel.
Originally, the lake was one seen for it's natural beauty, often cited as a place of wonder for the original city that resided where Vorbile does now. Many attempted to flee there, but it was by Arondel and Hukani that most of them would have to leave the island completely, or stay and be slaughtered. The bottom of the lake, once known for it's deposits of gold and crystals, now holds the bodies of many of the warriors that tried to fight back. It is unknown on if they'll ever be recovered, or on who they are. The once-vibrant tower that resides on the side opposite to the coast, is now in ruins, a dark hue having been added through the lingering of Vorbile's domain. Arondel has made the peak of the tower a temporary sanctuary for whenever he momentarily breaks free of the dragon's control. It's here he keeps a journal detailing the secrets of the island, a hope that heroes may come and free them.
Not too far from the lake itself lays a cave upon the coast. It tunnels to below the body of water, a sanctuary for Lyra and her companion, Sam. The cave, when they were both still free, was decorated with many things from their childhood, or things they've always wished to have. After the Sea Elf's death, and her corruption, Lyra would often come to this place. Under his control, the insectoid had no idea of the memories involving the place, but it had drawn her there regardless. In her brief moments of freedom, Lyra would scour the coastlines, underground passageways, and anything to just escape. It has caused her to break through the stone on many times before, flooding the tunnels she has made herself. It's also how she learnt to swim, faced with the problem of facing the waters or dying in them.
