Havere Chapter 2, Session 5: Teamster Life, Teamster Death

General Summary

Date: 12th of Tsuki 4824   The party is visited in the morning by the old woman representative of the Brotherhood in Arms. They agree to meet the BIA a little past the Elven Gate who will escort them to a secret location where they will conduct the transaction. They learn that the Harbor Watch, because of the gang war, is inspecting all wagons and carts coming into and out of the city. The BIA have already secured ahead of time a forged order, manifest, and other documentation which they entrust to the party to help them through the gate. The papers indicate that they are transporting cloth to a local seamster in the outer city.   During the day, Murgan buys winter clothes, woodworking tools, and makes two concealable "pool cue" javalins. Morgan studies the arcane. Belinda summons a familiar sea gull, and Carnival lifts weights.   In the evening time, Murgan and Carnival lead the rest of the group to the rendezvous: a wearhouse under the ownership of the TransAasha Company in the Harbor District. There Jaques Pierre greets them and takes them to a secret dock far south of the city of Havere. The rest of the group Himo, Belinda, and Morgan follow behind.   Murgan and Carnival try to gather as much information as possible. The cargo is all marked with various interested parties in the city of Havere, but the majority of it is owned by the Rising Sun Trading Cooperation. Speaking to the other teamsters on break, Murgan determines that the whole operation is well organized and is perhaps made easier by some higher power possibly in government. Jaques Pierre himself got the gig from an uncle who works in upper management in Rising Sun Trading.   Carnival, using his background in sailing, builds a small report with the rough looking sailors. He determines that they are pirates sort-of, but the lucrative money in smuggling for the city of Havere has been very lucrative. The pirates tell Carnival that the Sea Elves on Tol Ear'Kauma are engaged in a war-like conflict. They are desperately in need of medicines and supplies just like Havere.   Later, as the team is finishing loading the cargo on the wagons, two of the teamsters are attacked near the surf while relieving themselves. Murgan and Carnival engage the sea creatures as the other rush as fast as they can to help. Himo using the speed of the wind quickly gets Murgan and Carnival's axes to them and dispatches a sea spawn creature drowning one of the teamsters. Morgan casts a fireball and greatly damages almost all of the sea creatures.   The creatures are led by three robed figures who counter attack. Their bolts hit Himo, Carnival, and Murgan who are unable to resist whatever malady they carry. As Murgan and Carnival engage these robed figures they one-by-one remove their masks revealing their terrifying visages. Murgan and Carnival are racked by fear for a time but come to their senses and cause mortal wounds to the robed figures. Eventually, all of the attackers are dispatched (despite having death defying abilities).   The group investigates the group of attackers. The robed figures are greatly disfigured and have mutated into deadly sea creatures. Their clothes and masks are very similar to those used by the Church of the Passion (although stained by ocean and full of barnacles). The sea spawn were a mixed bag. Some of them did not seem like they were originally of a mortal race at all while others seemed human. Curiously some of them were of elvish physiology.   The teamsters quit the job in order to quickly bring the bodies of their family and friends back to the city. Murgan pays them the 40 gold that they are owed in order to help them with the funeral costs.   The party finish loading the goods to the wagons.
