Havere - Chapter 2, Session 1: Orgy?
General Summary
The party rests after their encounter with the Black Heart. The next morning Thom shows up with his nena Morgaine and the party puts them to work. Findley and Morgan go looking for materials for thier new spells while Murgan and Himo buy more suitable clothes. Xenia goes shopping for some more equipment for the group, and Belinda summons a fly familiar.
In the middle of her ritual, Belinda is interrupted by Lileth Andelval she mentions that her contact that she originally sent to investigate the Church of Passion has stop sending messages and that something is amiss. Since she has also charged the party with investigating the Church, she wishes that during their investigations if they find her, that they rescue her if needed. The agent's name is Marselle Lambert who has long blond hair and blue eyes. She gives them a code phrase to identify each other. She says that if the party needs her she will no longer be at her summer home, but working at the Citadel advising the King.
After the morning activities are done, Findley decides to go talk to the local guilds about fixing up the party's property. All of the guilds send a representative to inspect the house and provide a quote. The party decides (after Belinda talks them all down a little) to pay them to repair the house, bring it up to code, fix the secret doors, repaint and repair the walls, and build a fence around the property for Gus. The guilds say that the repairs will take a week.
Nena proves to be a decent chef.
That evening, Murgan decides to gather some information down near the docks. After helping a dock worker move some crates, he learns that a small amount of goods are still making their way into the city via pirates. Unknown and mysterious benefactors are hiring dockworkers and night to still move goods into the city.
The next day the party rests and prepares for the Church's "recruitment rally." They are let in and are immediately encouraged to partake of the food, wine, music, and dance. Xenia, Finley, and Belinda all are affected by some sort of mind-altering agent in the food and beverage.
Xenia really enjoys herself and meets a very happy man dacing his life out on the dance floor. She joins him and eventual both are escorted to a guarded room upstairs. She discovers that very merry revelers are engaging in a group activity, and she joins in.
Meanwhile the rest of the party is trying to talk to the other party goers and and their robed hosts. Carnival talks to a distraught woman who has recently lost her faith in Olastra after the sudden death of her husband, and is looking for peace.
Belinda talks to a very excited sex worker who is happy that she has found a religion that treats her like a saint instead of a sinner. She tries to make friends with Belinda, but Belinda isn't having it. In fact she accidentally spills her wine on the woman's beautiful dress.
Findley, after resisting the urge to partake any more, decides to try to see what Xenia is up to. He pretends to be very inebriated and soon he is escorted up to the room, but he incense burning in the room proves to be too much for him to resist, and he joins with the group activity.
The rest of the party is catching on to what is happening and next Carnival tries to talk his way in. The guard notices that he isn't "having a good time" and offers him some food and wine. Carnival replies that he needs something stronger, and the robed guard produces a vial of blue liquid and hands it to him. When Carnival asks to go halveses, the guard produces another for himself and the two cheers and drink the liquid. Carnival is overcome by the potion is escorted into the room and joins in on the group activity.
At this point Belinda decides to pretend like she's drunk and is escorted into the room. She resists the incense and throws the censors out of the window. A few minutes later a couple robed guards come back with the censors and ask Belinda what happened. She says she doesn't know and pretends to be drugged. The priests say this isn't the first time and re-light the censors, refill the wine and food, and leave.
While this is happening Murgan is coming up with an escape plan, and Morgan is using magic to find out what he can learn. He casts detect magic and discovers that all of the food and wine are glowing with an enchantment aura. He casts comprehend languages and learns from the priests a few bits of information:
1) Worthy parishers are are being sent as missionaries across the sea to spread the gospel of passion.
2)There was a previous class of recruits that are progressing towards baptism nicely. They were surprised that a stubborn half-elf turned a leaf and is one of the most pious in the class.
3) The chocolate-filled pastries come from Le Patissere Magnifique
The party leaves the party at the end of the night. Those in the group activity are given cots to sleep on and a paper card is slipped into each of their belongings. They are accepted as new disciples and to learn more about the Lord of Passion at the a private sermon at the Lighthouse Rochergris.
